The Aetherspark is an artifact containing an artificial planeswalker's spark created by Ishikari Bindra.[1] The device can, in theory, grant any user planeswalking abilities.[2] It was the prize awarded to the winner of the second annual interplanar Ghirapur Grand Prix, the Champions of Amonkhet.[3][4]
History
Ishikari Bindra was an inventor from Avishkar, fixated on the idea of creating an artificial planeswalker's spark to make interplanar travel possible for common people.[1] She crafted a catching net from whatever she could get her hands on in defiance of the Consulate. Although she had originally planned to use the net when Rashmi next used the Planar Bridge, she made use of the opportunity when the Phyrexians breached the Blind Eternities with Realmbreaker during the Phyrexian Invasion. While she successfully activated her machine as Halo spread through Avishkar, creating the Aetherspark, she died in the process of activating it.
The Aetherspark was recovered from Consulate storage by agents of the Avishkar Assembly, along with notes that indicated that it contained a stable planeswalker's spark and would allow for its use by anyone who wields the device.[2] The specifics of its function were not detailed. It is contained in a super-cooled aether solution within an ornate vessel.[5]
Before the Omenpath Era, the Aetherspark would have been an extraordinarily valuable treasure, but in an age where other, more reliable methods of interplanar travel exist, it is mostly a prestige item.[2] Thus, the Assembly considered it safe to offer as a prize.
Chandra Nalaar competes in the Ghirapur Grand Prix to win the prize for Nissa Revane.[6][7]
The Champions of Amonkhet claimed the Aetherspark as the winners of the 2nd Ghirapur Grand Prix.[4]
Trivia

- As an Equipment, the Aetherspark is also the first planeswalker card to have a subtype other than a planeswalker type.[8]
- Like the Wanderer, the Aetherspark is a planeswalker with no associated planeswalker type.
