Bahamut is the name of a powerful dragon in multiple fantasy settings, including two Universes Beyond products. In Dungeons & Dragons, Bahamut is a lawful good dragon god. This Bahamut appears on a white planeswalker card in Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, although he is not a planeswalker within Magic lore.[1]

Dungeons & Dragons

Bahamut's natural form is a massive platinum dragon, but he often is disguised as a human in peasant robes and accompanied by seven gold great wyrms polymorphed into canaries.[2] His name originates in Islamic cosmology, where it describes an immense sea creature that supports the physical world. Gary Gygax chose the names Bahamut and Tiamat from world mythology for an evil queen and good king of dragons, thereby introducing them into modern fantasy.[3]

Other characters named Bahamut

Another dragon named Bahamut exists as a summon in several entries of the Final Fantasy series. Akitoshi Kawazu, the battle designer for the first two Final Fantasy games, is a fan of Dungeons & Dragons, and took the name from Gygax's creation.[4] Two versions of this Bahamut appear in the set Final Fantasy, as Summon: Bahamut from Final Fantasy X, and Bahamut: Warden of Light from Final Fantasy XVI.
