Sylvene was a Ravnican planeswalker that was introduced in the lore accompanying Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. She was the grandmother of Tyreus.

Appearance and characteristics

Sylvene was a wise and thoughtful human mage from Ravnica who combined adventurous explorations with an almost anthropological study of the Forgotten Realms.

History

Sylvene visited the Realms decades ago and was one of the wizards who taught and practiced magic in the Wizard’s Barrow on the High Moor. She fell in love with a local man and built a refuge for them in a small demiplane of her creation. Unfortunately, her husband lost his life in a misadventure in Moor. Sylvene was pregnant when he died, and she gave birth to their son, Tyberio, in Waterdeep. She eventually returned to Ravnica to raise him, and she passed away when Tyberio was twelve.

Tyberio rebelled by refusing to study magic. He sought a quiet life as a craftsman and merchant but carried a certain bitterness and resentment toward the world of Ravnica. He always wanted to visit the land where his parents had met but never managed to. Tyberio started a family with his wife, Ayraea, and had one son. In bitterness, Tyberio forbade his son Tyreus from studying magic — but it didn’t work. Tyberio’s teenage son secretly began learning the ways of mages the same summer that, coincidentally, Tyberio and Ayraea passed away from a minor plague.

Furious over his parents’ fears of magic, their death, and his powerlessness, Tyreus devoted his life to magic thereafter.

Although it was explicitly stated that the Dungeons & Dragons setting of the Forgotten Realms is not considered to be canonically part of Magic's Multiverse, the Magic Story released with the set mixed the flavor anyway.
