Marvel's Spider-Man (stylized as Magic: The Gathering®—Marvel's Spider-Man) is an upcoming tentpole set in the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond series released by Wizards of the Coast.[2][3] The set will be released on September 26, 2025.[4][5][6][7][8] Marvel's Spider-Man is Standard legal and can be counted as the 107th Magic expansion. The set was designed with Pick-Two Draft (4-player draft) in mind.[9] Spider typal and the web-slinging mechanic represent Spider-Man's heroics, while Villain typal and the mayhem and connive mechanics represent the Spider-Man's adversaries.
Product suite
Marvel's Spider-Man will be available in Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, the Spider-Man Bundle, a Scene Box and five welcome decks. Unusually, it does not feature any preconstructed Commander decks.[10][11] The main set features 198 regular cards (65 commons, 55 uncommons, 53 rares, 15 mythic rares, 10 basic lands), and includes randomly inserted traditional foil versions of all cards.
Set codes and numbering

The main Standard-legal set uses the code SPM. Alternate card frames have a different card number than the original version. The regular set includes five full-art "Spiderweb" basic lands, depicting sights from New York, numbered #189–193.[11] The regular basic lands (featuring a webslinging Spider-Man in their art) are #194–198. Collector numbers #199–207 are borderless scene cards forming a 3x3 panel of different Spider-Men fighting together. There are also 10 borderless "web-slinger cards" in the set, consisting of 3 mythic rares and 7 rares (#208–217). Fourteen borderless "panel cards" feature the panels and lettering layout of a comic book, consisting of 4 mythic rares and 10 rares (#218–231). Collector numbers #232–234 are three cards with the "Iconic Covers" treatment, using original comic book art, complete with the original artist credits.[12] Collector numbers #235–241 are textured foil borderless "Costume Change" variants of Spectacular Spider-Man, respectively depicting various suits. #242 and #243 are variations of The Soul Stone. Extended art cards are #244-283. Promo cards are #284-286.

The Eternal-legal sets are SPE () and MAR. These cards are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage, and reprints remain legal in all formats where they already were. MAR cards are also legal in Marvel's Spider-Man Draft and Sealed when opened in Play Boosters (SPE cards don't appear in Play Boosters).[11] SPE cards appear in the Scene Box and Welcome Decks, while the MAR code is used for borderless source material cards.
Booster packs

Each Play Booster contains 14 cards: 6–7 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare or mythic rare, 1 wildcard slot with a card of any rarity, 1 traditional-foil card of any rarity, and 1 land, all from the main set. Panel and web-slinger cards can be found in any slot except the common, uncommon, and land slots; scene cards can be found in the same slots and in the uncommon slot. One in every 24 boosters includes a borderless source material card from the bonus sheet, replacing the seventh common slot. Each booster also contains a non-foil double-sided token. A Play Booster box contains 30 packs.
Each Collector Booster contains 15 cards: 5 traditional foil commons, 4 traditional foil uncommons (which can include scene cards), 1 traditional foil spiderweb basic land, 1 traditional foil default frame rare or mythic rare, 2 non-foil alternate-frame rare or mythic rare cards, 1 borderless source material card from the bonus sheet, and 1 foil alternate-frame rare or mythic rare. All slots except the last two can contain SPE cards. Several card treatments are exclusive to Collector Boosters: extended art cards, classic comic cards, textured foil costume change cards, and the Gauntlet and textless cosmic versions of The Soul Stone. A Collector Booster box contains 12 packs.[11]
Bonus sheet
The Source Material Cards bonus sheet is a collection of additional cards released alongside the main set. It contains reprinted cards themed for Spider-Man with iconic art from Marvel's comic book artists. Play Boosters may contain one of these forty cards with the MAR expansion code. Collector Boosters are guaranteed to contain one MAR card.[11]
Welcome decks
Marvel's Spider-Man features five Welcome Decks.[13]

The set includes borderless scene cards. When brought together, these cards form recognizable scenes from the books. These can be found in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.
The separately sold Scene Box includes six additional borderless scene cards with the SPE expansion code (SPE #21–26).[11] When brought together, these cards form recognizable scenes from the comics. The box also includes three Play Boosters, six art cards, and a display easel.[14]

Marvel's Spider-Man includes seven tokens.[15]

Through the Omenpaths
In April 2025, Wizards of the Coast announced that Marvel's Spider-Man would not be receiving a release on their digital platforms, Magic Online and Magic: The Gathering Arena.[16] Instead, a mechanically identical set re-themed with Magic in-universe creative treatments, art, and card names would be released under the banner of Through the Omenpaths. The cards are legal in all formats that would otherwise have used Marvel's Spider-Man but do not have any physical copies printed at the time of their release.
Themes and mechanics
As part of Spider-Man's repertoire of abilities, the set introduces the Web-slinging keyword ability.[17][18] It is an alternative cost for spells which includes returning a tapped creature you control to its owner's hand.
Two keywords represent the schemes of Spider-Man's rogues' gallery. The first, returning from Streets of New Capenna, is Connive. When a creature connives, its controller draws a card, discards a card, and then puts a +1/+1 counter on that creature if the discarded card was nonland. This synergizes with the second ability, Mayhem, a retooled version of madness. If a spell has a mayhem cost, it can be cast for that cost from a graveyard if it was discarded this turn. Unlike with madness, it doesn't have to be cast immediately.
Another returning concept is Modified, a batching term that collectively refers to creatures that are equipped, enchanted, or have counters on them.
There are multiple double-faced cards in the set, representing the characters and their secret identities. With cards like Peter Parker // Amazing Spider-Man, it features the first modal double-faced cards that can transform.[19][18]
To make Limited formats smoother, the set heavily features hybrid mana. Hybrid appears on cards of all rarities.
As a one-off on The Soul Stone, the set introduces the harness ability and the (infinity) ability.[20]
Card types
Spider-Man introduces the Symbiote card type. Villain is reintroduced as an eternal type.[7] Both Villain and Hero have mechanical relevance.[21]
Human characters whose genetic codes contain animal DNA are given a corresponding creature type (e.g., Spider).[22] When the first cards were revealed, a controversy arose around the fact that the Green Goblin was being typed as a Goblin, even though goblins as such don't exist in the Marvel Universe.[23] With the set's focus specifically on Spider-Man, Spider typal is a theme of the set.[24]
The set also adds the Infinity and Stone artifact types, which - unlike Time Lord before it - was made two separate types.[25]
Sand is used for the first time on the type line of a non-token card.
The set has a significant number of common legendary creatures due to its smaller size and the vast array of characters across the Spider-Verse.
Counters
Pumpkin Bombs makes use of fuse counters, which haven't been used since Odyssey. The set also reuses ingenuity counters and introduces film counters.
Limited archetypes
As a set designed for Pick-Two Draft, Marvel's Spider-Man features five limited archetypes (two-color allied).[26][27][28]
: Modified creatures
: Connive and Villain typal
: Mayhem and "discard matters"
: "Mana value 4+ matters"
: Web-slinging and ETB/LTB effects
Storyline
This is a crossover product based on the Marvel Universe, a fictional shared universe where the stories in most American comic book titles and other media published by Marvel Comics take place. It is notably based on the original comics and not on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Peter Parker is a full-time superhero better known as the web-slinging and wall-crawling Spider-Man. As an orphaned child, Peter was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. At a science expo, Peter was bitten by an errant radioactive spider, which granted him an array of arachnid powers. Spider-Man features characters and stories from across its comic history. This includes characters from the extended Spider-Verse.
Design and development
Marvel's Spider-Man is the first major release in a series of products created for Magic: The Gathering by Hasbro (Wizards of the Coast) in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment.[29] It is themed around the superhero Spider-Man.[30] Among R&D, there was a consciousness that Spider-Man had a potential to bring in a higher volume of new players versus other Universes Beyond properties, but the set was designed as an expert set and not an introductory set, albeit one leaning towards the less complex side.[31] It was designed specifically with the new Pick-Two Draft format in mind.[32]
This set is roughly 80 cards smaller than a usual Standard set. At the start of design, it was going to be an even smaller set.[33] The idea initially was that the set would be legal in all formats and focused on Commander.[34][35] It would consist of this 100 cards without commons, which was similar to the Assassin's Creed Beyond Booster set. One of those reasons to make the set larger was that the smaller size was forcing R&D to cut a lot of characters and other elements they wanted to include. Another reason was that they had gotten feedback that players were less satisfied with smaller set sizes.[36]
Rules changes
Previously, a modal double-faced card couldn't transform, but that rule is removed. Any modal double-faced permanent that is instructed to transform now can.[18]
Formatting and template changes
Starting with Marvel's Spider-Man, Universes Beyond cards will no longer have the inverted triangle replacing the standard oval security stamp for rare and mythic rare cards, nor the triangular stamp printed in silver on common and uncommon Universes Beyond cards.[11] The special Universes Beyond card frame is also retired. After this change, UB cards can still be recognized by the additional copyright notifications for the used IPs.
In addition, this set introduces character-specific pronouns on the rules text of legendary creature cards in Universes Beyond sets. R&D already included these on Secret Lair cards in the past.[11]
Marketing
“ | Swing into the Game | ” |
The set is included in the yearlong Marvel Super Heroes VS Villains consumer products campaign.[37] This also includes Marvel Legends action figures with exclusive Magic prom cards. The set is accompanied by the Secret Lair Drop Series: Marvel's Spider-Man Superdrop.
Headliner
The Headliner for this set is The Soul Stone.[38] The textless cosmic foil version of this card can be found only in Collector Boosters.[11]
