Miscellaneous
Set
- Despite his critical importance to the origin and character of Spider-Man, Uncle Ben Parker is not depicted on any cards, nor is his iconic quote ("With great power, there must also come great responsibility") attributed to him on With Great Power.... However, his tombstone is depicted on the bonus sheet printing of Rest in Peace.
- No iteration of the Green Goblin is actually green.
- Unusually, some legendary creature cards in the set (e.g. Rhino, Barreling Brute) have flavor text formatted as a quote which is attributed to the character themself. Normally, when a legendary creature card has a quote as flavor text, it goes unattributed (e.g. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite). This is true even within Marvel's Spider-Man itself (e.g. Spider-Man, Web-Slinger). The reason for this is unknown.
- When quoting superheroes and supervillains in flavor text, the set mostly follows the pattern set in the Secret Lair Marvel superdrop of "[code name], [secret identity]". However, on some cards (e.g. Electro's Bolt), this pattern is ignored. The reason for this is unknown.
Cards
- The designs of Doctor Octopus, Master Planner, Doc Ock, Evil Inventor and Grasping Tentacles all play on the fact that Doc Ock has eight limbs (four mechanical tentacles, his two regular arms and his two legs).
- Four of the five mythic transforming DFCs require a shard mana cost to access the back side. Of these, Peter Parker and Miles Morales are the primary colors of their shard, while the other two are one of the side colors. Gwen Stacy breaks this pattern, as its back side has a wedge mana cost and it is in the primary color of that wedge.
- The Hero and Villain types are widely used across the set to indicate whether a given character fights on the side of good or evil. However, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote have acted as both a hero and a villain in the past. Their card does not attempt to resolve this apparent contradiction, with both Eddie Brock and Venom, Lethal Protector simply being Hero Villains.
- Island (Marvel's Spider-Man, #195) depicts Manhattan Bridge, looking south towards Manhattan on Long Island.
- Every card depicting Flash Thompson has flash, even the bonus sheet printing of Opposition Agent, which depicts him as Agent Venom.
- The artwork of Secret Identity pays homage to the original Unmask artwork. Both are illustrated by rk post.
- Marvel cards not only credit the artist, but the colorist and the inker of the comic when applicable. Rite of Replication credits the most artists out of any Magic card, with 5 people: the penciler, the colorist, and 3 inkers.
Notes
- ↑ Previously, only the acorn card Rocket-Powered Turbo Slug had "Rocket-Powered" in its name.
- ↑ Ingenuity counters are not new to Magic: The Gathering. They were first used on Jhoira, Ageless Innovator in Dominaria United.
