The Hobbit (stylized as Magic: The Gathering® | The Hobbit™) is an upcoming Magic: The Gathering expansion in the Universes Beyond series, based on the novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is scheduled for release on August 14, 2026.[1] The Hobbit is the second expansion set in Tolkien's Middle-earth, the first being The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. Wizards of the Coast first teased the set with a short animated video wishing happy birthday to Bilbo Baggins, which led to speculation of a new Middle-earth crossover product.[2] The set was officially announced four days later at MagicCon Atlanta 2025.[3]
Storyline

The Hobbit is set in Middle-earth and follows home-loving Bilbo Baggins, the titular hobbit who joins the wizard Gandalf and the thirteen dwarves of Thorin's Company on a quest to reclaim the dwarves' home and treasure from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo's journey takes him from his peaceful rural surroundings into more sinister territory.
