Fortify is a keyword ability that appears on Fortifications. It functions the same as equip, except that it targets a land instead of a creature.
History
Fortify was introduced in Future Sight on the future-shifted Darksteel Garrison. Mark Rosewater has considered the mechanic difficult to implement, as the Fortification needs to be distinct from Auras but R&D's stance on land destruction limits the ability to put powerful effects on fortifications.[2][3][4] This also limits the utility of Fortifications.
In spite of these difficulties, R&D included a new card with fortify in the Universes Beyond: Fallout commander deck — C.A.M.P. — 17 years after the debut of the ability.
