In Magic lore, a mana vault is a way to store mana and lock away powerful artifacts.

Description

Mana vaults have been depicted in various forms. The original from Dominaria is a box as big as a skull and pink as sunburn. It is grooved, or etched, into regular furrows. Two faces have raised squares like belt buckles, and the other two have round buckles. Ridges look like straps holding the buckles on. Yet it is all of one piece made of some porous pink rock, superficially resembling coral, but hard and solid rather than brittle.[1]

On Avishkar, it is similarly a large metal box though with more golden and seemingly infused with aether. New Capenna has mana vaults inside of buildings encased behind a large circular door. Another unknown variation is comprised of a large metal tower with floating crystals floating around, rising above an enclosed space.

History

Dominaria

The Stone Brain was contained inside a mana vault, before being launched into orbit. About 4000 years later, it became a falling star as it fell from orbit, crashing in the woods of northern Aerona, where it was tracked down by Towser's entourage.[1]

Avishkar

On Avishkar, a mana vault was brought to the Inventors' Fair by the Aetherological Society. It was surrounded by a fence to ensure the safety of observers. It ended up being confiscated by the government under the guise of safeguarding it from Renegades attacks. While doing so, their cart carrying it broke its axles due to its weight.[2]
