Description
Peema is a vast wild forest on the plane of Avishkar, covering tens of thousands of acres of vibrant, aether-rich wilderness.[1]
The Consulate officially considers Peema a city and has installed the same officials and regulations as in other settlements. In reality, however, Peema remains overwhelmingly wild, with only a small portion containing homes and streets. The forest is unique on Avishkar for its daily aether streams that descend from the aethersphere and wind through its dense flora and abundant fauna. This constant flow of aether energizes the plant life and animals of Peema, making them more vibrant, resilient, and lively than anywhere else on the plane.[2]
Peema is best known as the largest home of elves on Avishkar. These elves live high in the sturdy trees, building their dwellings among the branches where aether streams can sweep through their homes. They believe in what they call the Elegant Design: the harmonious relationship between nature and the flow of aether through the Great Conduit. Many elves are cultivators, tending crops and trees that provide food and wood for export to cities like Ghirapur.[2]
The arrival of non-elven settlers brought new interactions and tensions to Peema. Some elves, fascinated by the refined aether technologies that humans and others brought with them, chose to collaborate. These elves shared their unique knowledge of aether’s flow, helping settlers design more efficient devices and structures attuned to the natural environment. Some even traveled to Ghirapur, where a few rose to fame as visionary architects and inventors. But not all elves welcomed the Consulate's presence or the spread of urban life into their forest. Many elves who disliked the city's wasteful consumption of aether returned to Peema to protect it from outside influence, forming communities that resist any attempt to tame the forest or exploit its natural magic.[2]
Humans were the first non-elves to settle Peema, moving up the Vinday River and founding a riverside colony. What began as a simple village inspired by elven homes quickly grew after the Great Aether Boom, when shipments of refined aether fueled new technologies and comforts. Over time, more city dwellers arrived seeking a simpler life, and the settlement pushed further into the forest. Many non-elves now live in Peema in quiet communities that blend modern aether-driven technology with an appreciation for the Elegant Design. Yet some still see the forest as a resource to be explored or exploited, hoping to unlock the secrets of the elves' connection to the wild magic. Some study the forest's patterns and flows, aiming to bring nature's shapes and energy into their inventions. Others seek a deeper awareness they believe can only come through intimate contact with Peema's aether-rich wilderness.[2]
