The Aether Rangers is a racing team from Avishkar that competes in the Ghirapur Grand Prix.[1] The team was founded by Pia Nalaar and is now co-led by her as Chief Engineer and public representative and star pilot Spitfire.[1][2][3]
Description
The Aether Rangers is a team that brings humans, elves, vedalken, and dwarves together to race for the glory of Avishkar and the Avishkar Assembly.[1] These aether-riding pilots and engineers are a cross-generation, cross-class team of comrades that combine the best of pre-revolutionary Avishkar with the hope-chasing cohort of the new generation.
In addition to their Grand Prix team, the Aether Rangers field several lower-division squadrons, funded and outfitted by the Avishkar Assembly.[1] The main rival of the Aether Rangers is the Cloudspire Racing Team, the winners of the inaugural interplanar Ghirapur Grand Prix. Chandra Nalaar is the co-captain of Cloudspire, a veritable coup pulled off by Cloudspire that has lit a fire under the Aether Rangers.
Vehicles
Vehicles of the Aether Rangers express their hopeful, open approach to the unknown.[1] Light and strong, Ranger vehicles are built to race ahead of, fly above the fray, pierce adversity, and streak through, quick as flashing light riding currents of ramjet-fired aether. Their vehicles are quick, handle well, fueled by aether, and hover just above the ground, making them good for any terrain they might encounter during the race.[4]
Team captain Spitfire's vehicle, originally built by Pia and Chandra Nalaar for Chandra, featured a ten-cylinder aether inverter system, two cyclonic mitigators, and golden storm pistons.[5][6] A button on the steering wheel shoots a bladed arc of lightning from the grille.[7] It can travel at half the speed of sound.[8] Her exosuit, designed by Pia, features three aerosolized aether cartridges hooked up by glowing brass filigree tubes to induction ports that deliver the aether to her body and shunt her into the Aetherdrift.[9] The vehicle was destroyed during the failed Avishkari coup in the final stage of the race.[10]
Chief mechanic Pia Nalaar pilots a mobile engineering vehicle to support the team.[7]
