The Wanderwine River, or more simply the Wanderwine, is the greatest river in Lorwyn.[1]

Description

The great Wanderwine is a calm, lowland flood flowing through the landscape of Lorwyn. The sprawling river network has its source at a spring on Mount Tanufel, guarded by an elemental called The Source (of the Wanderwine). The river is deep, about 40 feet wide, and runs fast and clear.[2][3] The Wanderwine is the most merrow-trafficked of Lorwyn's rivers, and many of their crannogs line the riverbed. The merrow use the Wanderwine to transport and store goods.[4] Ports and trade hubs dot the river's length, offering weary travelers opportunities to refresh and resupply. Some tunnels to the Dark Meanders begin in the bed of the Wanderwine.[5][6]

Called "Big River" by the kithkin, the Wanderwine passes through Porringer Valley and runs by several central locations in Lorwyn, including the Murmuring Bosk, the Tanfell Plateau, Kinsbaile, and the Gilt-Leaf Wood.[6] It is due east of Goldmeadow.[2]

The Wanderwine is a hope to arbomanders, giant amphibians that can grow as large as one hundred feet.[6]

History

In 4520 AR, Captain Sygg was a ferryman and riverguide on the Wanderwine on the crossing leading to the kithkin clachan of Kinsbaile. During one such journey, he brought the flamekin Ashling, a kithkin family, and the Vendilion Clique across the river. In transit, he was attacked by an arbomander and knocked unconscious, but the faeries reluctantly rescued the passengers from the river.[6]
