The secluded Glen Elendra is the haven of the elusive queen of the fae on Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. The current reigning queen is Maralen. Before her rule, Glen Elendra was occupied by the eternally-blooming queen Oona.[1]
Description
Glen Elendra lies in a mountain valley south of Lys Alana.[2][3] It is not a large place, barely a hundred acres of gently curving hills covered in a thick blanket of trees, shrubs, and grasses. In the daylight, the glen is rife with blooms and blossoms of every size and color, and the air is filled with birdsongs. At sunset, the glen’s beauty is quieter, but perhaps more breathtaking. Jasmine flowers bloom, catching and reflecting the light, as silver-white moths flutter between the vines. Sparkleflies and will-o’-the-wisps flicker everywhere — from the forest floor up to the canopy — wreathing the misty grounds and the towering greenery in a festival of light.[4]
The trees of the surrounding forest, standing straight and tall under their burden of climbing vines and trumpet-shaped flowers, grow densely right up to the edge of the glen, which is divided down the middle by a small brook. A tight-knit briar hedge forms the security perimeter of the glen. At the brook's source, high in the glen, a single massive flower rises toward the sky, crowning a thick green column made from a dozen braided stems that support a vast blossom. Its petals of silver, gold, and ivory form a scalloped cup, their tips reaching higher than the tops of the trees. Where the stamen and pistil would be, there is a large palace, elegant in its simplicity, built from bricks of molded bramble instead of stone. It has ramparts and towers, and a courtyard large enough to host jousts and outdoor feasts.[5]
A wellspring of blue and black mana, the glen is protected by layer upon layer of deceptive glamour and guarded fiercely by the fae. The name of Glen Elendra is known throughout the plane, but before Oona's fall, most considered the rumors of its existence a prank perpetrated by the faeries.[3] Maralen glamers the glen to protect it from those in Shadowmoor who would destroy its beauty and to provide privacy.
Day and night intermingle in Glen Elendra.[5] Due to Oona's protective magic, Glen Elendra was the only location on Lorwyn not changed in the Great Aurora. After her fall, Maralen assumed control as the queen of the plane's fae, and the palace expanded over the course of most of a decade to fit her elvish size.[6][5]
