Part of Clachans

Dundoolin is the second largest kithkin clachan in Lorwyn, only Kinsbaile is larger.[1] Its Shadowmoor counterpart is Dundaeron.[2] It is known for its sages, who have recorded the Lorwyn's greater elementals in the illustrated manuscript, the Eightyfold Trail, for generations.

Description

A tall bell tower rises above a collection of thatched-roof homes, with amphitheaters nestled among them. At its center is a collapsed fort residents informally call the Library of Dundoolin. Workers dig to uncover caches of documents stored in underground chambers sealed off long ago when boggarts collapsed the town's original Belltower. Chief Excavator Ern Barhen (Small, Lawful Good Mage) leads efforts to uncover the fort's buried chambers.

Dundoolin is home to about 100 residents, though visiting scholars give it the appearance of a larger settlement. Most permanent residents are kithkin, though faeries and changelings are also numerous. Dundoolin is a haven for scholars and sages, who travel here to study and debate with other visitors. Sages in Dundoolin have worked on the Eightyfold Trail, an illustrated manuscript recording the categories and omens of Lorwyn's greater elementals, for generations.[3][4]

History

As recorded in the Book of Kith and Kin, Daranna Gwal was Dundoolin's cenn when the Belltower crumbled. Daranna was an honored leader of the clachan, one of the most popular in memory, and an expert swordkith. But when she fell injured in battle, and delirious boggarts got past her to destroy the beloved Belltower. Although she slew the warren's Auntie, she lost pride in her leadership. From her recovery-bed she named Hyal Lwellen her heir, willed him her precious sword, and died soon after.[3]

Hyal took up Daranna's sword, accepting the role of cenn of Dundoolin, and went on to become its most famous cenn of all. Among his acts during his tenure, he had the Belltower rebuilt, set up trade holidays with the Paperfin merrows, and established the first school devoted to elemental study. But Hyal's most famous act was to disband the Dundoolin Raiders, a militia that was used to invade boggart warrens.[3]
