Maralen was a Mornsong elf from the plane of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. A creature with the same name assumed her identity and now acts as the great faerie who rules from Glen Elendra and stewards the plane.[1]
Description
Maralen was lean and very tall, even for an elf. She wore typical elvish garments that were accented with amethyst, jet, and sapphire in the traditional style of Mornsong attire. As opposed to the ram-like horns of the Gilt-Leaf, her fine horns were sleeker and sharper, and curved downwards to frame her heart-shaped, porcelain-skinned face. Her hair was black and luxurious, her eyes dark and wide. Being a handmaiden, she appeared more suited to a court than on a hunt. [2]
History
In 4520 AR, an elf named Maralen served as a handmaiden to the perfect Peradala and accompanied her wedding convoy to her marriage to Eidren of Lys Alana— a union which would unite the Mornsong and Gilt-Leaf tribes. However, their group was mysteriously attacked en route by a swarm of faeries and vines twining with blue flowers. The entire party was massacred gruesomely, save for Maralen, who was able to defend herself with some freshly-plucked moonglove. An unseen force subsequently questioned Maralen as the lashing vines subsumed her.[2]
The real Maralen died then, and she was replaced by a faerie imposter by Oona.
Legacy
Maralen's faerie duplicate retained Maralen's appearance and memories. It was, in part, the real Maralen's heart and memory that allowed the duplicate to develop a sense of individualism and defy her creator.[3]
The moonglove that Maralen harvested before her death was instrumental in Oona's defeat. The moonglove, in turn, was given to the Gilt-Leaf elf Rhys to be used against the new Maralen if ever she was to exhibit Oona's tyrannical behavior.[4]
