Sygg Gauhren Gyllalla Syllvar was a merrow ferryman in the Wanderwine river of Lorwyn.
History
In 4520 AR, Sygg was an established captain of shapewater ferries along the Wanderwine River with his apprentice, Dugah. However, his business had become stagnant since his regular route to Kinsbaile had lately been encroached upon by boggart raiding parties.
One day, Sygg was approached by a flamekin pilgrim, Ashling, seeking passage to Kinsbalie. The party would soon grow to include a small kithkin family and the Vendilion clique, who, unbeknownst to the others, had been tasked with tracking Ashling because of her anticipated dealings with the treefolk sage Colfenor. Before setting off, Sygg— demonstrating shrewd mercantile talents befitting of the merrow— would defuse a tense situation between Ashling and the kithkin matron, whose close-minded beliefs led her to be distrustful of the flamekin. Not far into the journey, their ferry was attacked by an arbomander. Sygg was knocked unconscious, Dugah was eaten, and the passengers were begrudgingly saved by the faeries. Despite the setback, the ferry ultimately arrived in Kinsbaile.[1]
Sygg later rendered his services to the elf Rhys as he sought passage from Kinsbaile to the Murmuring Bosk under the orders of Colfenor. Sygg was averse to the request following the recent arbomander-related incident that cost him his apprentice, but a deal was struck by Ashling, who was travelling alongside Rhys, and leveraged her poor experience from before and offered to pay double the boarding fee. Rhys and Ashling were joined by the Vendilion siblings, Maralen, and Brigid Baeli. Sygg took the company through the Dark Meanders, the most dreaded parts of the Lorwyn water system. Aboard the watercraft, the party was split up when the Vendilion clique cast a sleeping spell on the passengers, and saw fit to abduct Maralen (secretly a creation of the conniving faerie queen Oona) away to Glen Elendra, but Sygg managed to arrive at the Bosk with Rhys, Ashling, and Brigid all in tow. Before the return trip, he was attacked by Brigid when she, misguided by a manipulated message, tried to kill Ashling. Brigid ensnared Sygg and Rhys in a magical net as she made her escape, but Sygg managed to free them both from the kithkin hero's trap with a bit of quick thinking and a vial of acid. Sygg prepared to craft another shapewater ferry to pursue her back to Kinsbaile, but at this point, the Vendilion had brought Maralen back from their clandestine detour and offered to expedite the trip with a dozen faeries to carry them away instead. Sygg saw the party off and lent them weapons for their encounter with Brigid.[1]
Later, he once more provided his service to Rhys when the party returned to Bosk to check the progress of Colfenor's offspring. Doubtlessly fed up with ferrying such a tiresome group, Sygg questioned the wisdom of the journey and shared his opinion with varying levels of verbosity. The group was adamant on their return, however, by the simple virtue of the fact that they had no other place to be and could be counted on to be left alone there.[1]
Sygg eventually returned to the Paupurfylln (Paperfin) school, where he was a former mate of its leader, Reejerey Kasella. Another mate of his was Creidyllan of the crannog Aughn. Sygg bore the title of Heir to Morningtide, and possessed an artifact called Crescent of Morningtide. He retrieved the Crescent in hopes of stemming the madness that was infecting his people, but unfortunately, Brigid took it as the Great Aurora swept across the world.
After the Great Aurora

After Lorwyn turned into Shadowmoor, Sygg of the Razorfin became a pirate (although his card is a rogue), with Brigid as part of his crew. After the encounter with Jack Chierdagh, Brigid left his crew along with Wryget. Sygg later gathered a new gang, consisting of Kasella (now an Inkfathom concubine and assassin) and warrior-tideshapers Artio and Scathak. During that time, Sygg communed with The Source of Wanderbrine and learned about his destiny as the Heir to Morningtide. Sygg agreed to help Maralen and Brigid ambush Ashling near Kinscaer in exchange for being finally given the Crescent afterward. The ambush barely succeeded, with Ashling being defeated only by the intervention of Oona, who wanted her power for herself. However, Maralen beat Oona to it and revealed that she had never planned to give the Crescent back to Sygg and his battered crew. She kept the Crescent and united the power of two greater elementals, fire and water, in herself. Sygg was forced to leave after threatening Maralen, having never gotten the Crescent he was promised.
