The Dark Meanders,[1] also called the Dark Tributaries,[2] are a system of underground waterways below Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. The Merrow are known to explore these waterways.[3]
Description
The Dark Meanders are a series of subterranean caverns made up of tributaries of the Wanderbrine River that are home to merrow. These caverns wind under the land, sometimes breaching the surface. As of 4564 AR, most of the Dark Meanders lay below Shadowmoor, though some passages lead to Lorwyn.[4]
History
In 4520 AR, Sygg brought Ashling, Rhys, Maralen, Brigid Baeli, and the Vendilion Clique through the Dark Tributaries while escaping the trouble at the Festival of Tales in Kinsbaile. This was the first time Ashling witnessed her bonded elemental, the Spitemare. Using the Dark Tributaries enabled the party to access the Murmuring Bosk unseen, and to plant the seed which would become the Sapling of Colfenor.[2]
Some time later, Sygg and Brigid Baeli returned to the Dark Meanders while on their way to the merrow redoubt after having been attacked by malignants in Crannog Aughn. They traveled to the underwater redoubt, where they met with Sygg's cousin and mate, Reejerey Kasella.[1]
