Lady Ohabi Caleria was one or several individuals during a few hundred years of the War with Phyrexia.
Description
Ohabi Caleria was a dark-skinned woman with braided white hair and an antlered headdress. She wore ceremonial skins around her shoulders and a large diamond medallion around her neck. She carried a huge wooden longbow and a quiver stocked with white-feathered arrows. Her voice was dry and weathered, a deep throaty croak.[1]
Biography
The Goddess
As early as 3334 AR, Jamuraan archers like Marigold and Wilemina venerated a Lady Caleria of unknown first name as a godess of the hunt. They speak of Lady Caleria in present tense, as if she is alive at that time, or at least present as a deity.[2]
Ohabi Caleria
About 650 years later, the elven archer Ohabi Caleria ruled of the island Argenti. She was very good at hunting and rallied the Edemi Islands into a rebellion against the Empire of Madara, starting the Madara-Edemi War. After a failed invasion of the islands by the Kentsu, she led the islands to Madara itself to demand reparations.
Behind the scenes
Similar to the problems with Xira Arien, Tor Wauki, and Ramirez DePietro's continuity, the problem of two characters with the same name was a result of bad communication between the writers. Clayton Emery was told to include certain legends from Legends, and Scott McGough wasn't informed those characters were already being used. Although there are some discrepancies between Lady Caleria's two appearances, mostly due to the time gap, they are not irreconcilable:
- She is an elf, who are known to live for several centuries, creating the possibility that the two Lady Calerias are the same individual at different times.
- The first Lady Caleria may be an ancestor of the second.
- The first Lady Caleria may be a true deity, and the second took the deity's name in her honor.[3]
Adding to the confusion, the oracle text of Lady Caleria listed her type as a Human, but this was amended in 2020 when Human was changed to Elf.[4]. The 2022 Legends Retold version of the character was also printed as an Elf.
