Laurel Pratt

Laurel Pratt is a Worldbuilding Game Designer for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast. She started working for the company in April 2023.[1]

Description

As part of the worldbuilding team, she writes art descriptions, deepens and builds on existing lore, and collaborates with Play Design. Her first set was Magic: The Gathering Foundations, and also worked on Edge of Eternities.[2]

History

Laurel attended the DigiPen Institute of Technology from 2016 to 2020, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Game Design.[3]

She has a diverse range of work experience in the gaming industry. In 2019, she interned at Epic Games as a Hero Design Intern for Fortnite Save the World, contributing to the development of new playable heroes and weapons, as well as assisting with questlines and character dialogue. Following this, Laurel worked at Arcadia Games, Inc. as an Associate Designer from 2020 to 2022. Here, she contributed to various projects, including demo work, prototyping, and design documentation, with a focus on free-to-play models for mobile, tablet, PC, and console games. In 2022, Laurel joined Genpop Interactive as an Associate Game Designer, where she collaborated with a remote team on an unannounced competitive team shooter game. Laurel conducted research and documented new design systems while also working closely with the narrative team to develop characters and lore.

At Wizards of the Coast, Laurel is involved in the creation of immersive gaming experiences.
