Sovereign Okinec Ahau, also called the Deep King, is a Malamet noble on Ixalan, and the deified leader of his people.[1]

Description

Okinec Ahau is a large, armored Malamet who carries a massive, serrated obsidian sword.[1] His left fang is broken.[2] He sits on a throne on a raised dais in a pyramid within the largest of the stalactites in Ban Koj. He is the sovereign of the Malamet and considered the only god among his people.

History

After New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse, the caverns beneath Ixalan's surface opened, and surface dwellers began leading expeditions down, including some that trespassed into Malamet territory. One such expedition was sent by the Queen's Bay Company and led by the heretic Vito.[1] The Vampires were brought before Okinec's throne by Kutzil, where Vito accidentally insulted him by speaking out of turn and implying the existence of other gods. He decreed that they be punished by being thrown into quicksand, but their cartomancer Amalia created an escape from the sand pit.

Trivia

  • Ahau is a Maya word for nobility, used for a variety of rulers.[3]
