The Sanctum of the Sun is a legendary location on the plane of Ixalan.
Description
The Sanctum of the Sun is a building deep within Orazca, the golden city of the Sun Empire. It is locked behind Azor's Gateway and was created by Azor. After sacrificing his planeswalker spark to make the Immortal Sun, Azor retreated to this sanctum, awaiting the moment when his plan to trap Nicol Bolas would unfold. But that moment never came. Ugin never sent the signal, and Azor remained isolated, his purpose unfulfilled.[1] By this act, he also trapped himself on the plane. After waiting decades for Ugin's return and realizing their plan had failed, he resigned himself to return to influencing law systems on his adopted plane. Jace Beleren later discovered it and opened it to enter the inner Sanctum along with Vraska. Azor, still convinced of his righteousness, defended his actions, even as the world around him had moved on. Vraska tried to kill him for disrupting the balance of countless planes, but Jace stopped her. Speaking as the Living Guildpact, he sentenced Azor to spend his life in solitude on Useless Island.[2]
