High Marshal Arguel was a vampire knight from Torrezon who discovered the abandoned Temple of Aclazotz on the plane of Ixalan, shortly before his death from his induced blood fast.
Description
Arguel had a pointed mustache and beard and short black hair. His skin was sallow, and his face was gaunt, and he wore the golden armor of the Legion of Dusk, with a red cape attached. He wielded a glaive.[1]

History
Arguel went on a blood fast where he received visions of a bat's head statue, blood pouring from its mouth. Carrying the Hierophant's Chalice, an artifact that could provide him with an endless blood supply once he added a drop of blood to it.[2] Arguel's visions led him into the jungles of Ixalan to the lost Temple of Aclazotz, the bat-god of night, eternal enemy to the Threefold Sun. Similarly to his vision, the opening of the temple had blood pouring from it. Arguel walked through the blood and into the grand structure, but the bat god was not there. [3] Unbeknownst to Arguel, Aclazotz had been imprisoned and was slumbering in Ixalan's core, and would only later be freed by Vito Quijano de Pasamonte and his Church of Dusk.[4]
Despite having the Hierophant's Chalice still in hand, providing him a possibility for him to end his blood fast easily, Arguel died inside the temple, likely succumbing to the blood fast's effects, and possibly having lost awareness of the chalice due to the blood fast's known effects of maddening the mind. It was Mavren Fein who first entered the temple after Arguel had gone in. Mavren then fell under the enslavement of Zotz, a demon-spawn of Aclazotz, who laired in the temple. Mavren Fein remained enthralled by the demon for some amount of time, going slowly mad. Wandering through the land, he was encountered by a party led by the Order of the Five Sacraments cleric Alante in the Unclaimed Territory. Mavren led Alante's group back to the Temple of Aclazotz, where they battled both Mavren and Zotz. When Zotz was killed, its death finally broke its hold on Mavren, who was riddled with anguish for his terrible deeds under the demon's thrall. Alante's party made peace with Mavren and then found the dessicated corpse of Arguel lying on the altar, empty chalice still in hand. The state of his emaciated body indicated that his blood fast had never ended. Alante claimed the Hierophant's Chalice from Arguel's corpse for the Order of the Five Sacraments to keep it from the hands of her sworn enemy, Vona de Iedo.[2]
