Mohar Varma Madhu Varma |
Sita Varma is the scion of the affluent Varma family and a respected engineer from Avishkar. Unbeknownst to others, she led a double life as Spitfire, a masked folk hero and queen of underground racing.[1]
Description
Sita is the wealthy daughter of Mohar Varma, a former member of the Consulate.[1] Although he ensured that his daughter received the same education that any man would — including engineering school and self-defense training — he expected her to marry and settle down as a traditional wife. Instead, she secretly became the mysterious, tough, and seemingly unbeatable Spitfire. She carefully maintains her persona of a stoic antihero and enigma whose face remains unknown but whose exploits soar. On the track, she's known for her unique exosuit, designed by Pia Nalaar, which burns aether cartridges to shunt Sita into the Aetherdrift.[2]
History
Sita's mother was killed in the New Phyrexian Invasion.[3][4] She put her engineering education to work in the following two years as the racer Spitfire.
Sita co-led the Aether Rangers as its star pilot in the Ghirapur Grand Prix along with Chief Engineer Pia Nalaar.[5][6] Before the race, Sita considered Pia's daughter Chandra of the Cloudspire Racing Team as her main rival.[7] They later found mutual respect, after realizing that they were much alike.[8]
Though she was leading the race approaching the finish line, she was stopped by a sudden coup started by her father, which caused her identity to be revealed.[9] She broke free from her father's enforcers to rescue Chandra and Pia from Jace Beleren, who had interrupted the race to recover Loot.[10] Though she prevented them from being killed, all three were rendered unconscious by the mind mage, only being rescued by Nissa Revane and healed by Elspeth Tirel. After the race, she became the city's fastest taxi driver, ignoring her father's wishes now that he was incarcerated.[11]
Inspiration
Sita Varma, in her role as a mysterious, masked racer, was inspired by the Speed Racer character Racer X.[4]
