A young man who lives in Traublassen with his family. At some point, his sister died and Aleksandar came upon her corpse, although Umbris supressed this memory. After Torens paid Aleksandar's rent to Vytas, he helped Torens investigate an old building outside Traublassen. There, he was possessed by Umbris, who used the boy's body to feel the pains and sorrows stolen from the villagers. To save the boy, Torens freed the entity, releasing Aleksandar's body and freeing his memories.[5]
Algli

A tanner along with her husband. During an attack by a pack of ghouls, her husband and their youngest son were killed in the fight, and their eldest son burned to death when she set the tannery aflame. After a ghoulcaller raised her family and terrorised her town, she and Olutio slayed him and put their families to rest. Now an old woman, she, Olutio, and Sruta summoned a demon called the Buried Lord, to control the undead and finally bring security to their village. The demon killed the cultists, but Algli was saved by the Archangel Liesa, who had been returned to life inadvertantly by the ritual. Following this, Algli swore to serve the angel, as the first of her new host.[6]

Blackwell Councilwoman Blackwell

A member of the Council of Hanweir. She left the village for Nephalia to serve the "Queen of Vengeance," possibly referring to Avacyn, before the town's mutation.[1]
Boris

The son of Vytas and great-great grandson of Taivas. Killed along with his father by the angry villagers of Traublassen after they learned of his father's pact with Umbris.[5]
Boulder

A wolf packmate of Arlinn Kord. He is the largest and friendliest of his pack.[3][12]
Brandt

A vampire Hunter who fought Strefan Maurer over many years. He lost a part of his ear in their first encounter, and continued pursuing the vampire for decades after. He was killed by or bargained with the Hladvora two years before Strefan's encounter with it, eventually leading the vampire to his ancestral manor, where Brandt slit his own throat to trap his target.[13]
Brerig

A hunched demon in the employ of Davriel Cane, with features that vaguely resembled a hairless dog's snout.[4] Killed by demon hunters from Thraben.

Lord of the Interred

An ancient demon who in the past made a deal with Liesa and taught his secrets to the angel. Because he could not die, Liesa was kept alive by their pact. He was summoned by Algli, Olutio and Sruta. The trio of cultists intended to make the demon control the undead and bring security to their village, but the demon devoured them instead. Only Algli survived, saved by Liesa, who had been resurrected along with the demon through their connection.[6]

The Coiled One

A lost snake god "of venom and vengeance"[16] that the witch Saryth tried to summon using Sinnia (Leinore's sister), with the intention of chasing away the darkness. The ritual was thwarted and the creature was unconjured.[17]

A few-hundred-year-old Stromkirk vampire.[18]
Cosper Lowe Cosper Lowe of the Silbern Guard

Captain of a detachement of local cathars in Stensia. A classically handsome charismatic young man, good with a horse and blade. He used to be the target of a vampire's infatuation.[19] Around the time of Avacyn's return he killed his stalker.[15]

A tall, muscular, wingless demon with no hair, inhuman features, and horns that swept back along his head almost like a mane. A minion of Davriel Cane. Quick to heal and a skilled combatant, wearing warrior's leathers and a pair of wicked swords strapped to his waist.[4] Killed by Willia Verlasen.
Cyril Rav

A power hungry necro-alchemist who died in one of his own experiments.[20] Returned as a geist able to possess living bodies, but pursued by Millicent and the geists misused in his experiment. Responsible for the deaths of the mayor of Havengul, Millicent, and Lord Nellick, among others. He entered in a partnership with the geist-caller Jacob Hauken.

Alpha werewolf of the Leeraug Howlpack. The Leeraug is a relatively small and tight-knit pack of vicious predators, unique in that they hunt under the black night of the new moon, rather than transforming when the moon is full. Skaharra is a black-furred she-wolf noted for her tendency to kill entire families in a single night while sparing unrelated farmhands and servants.[42]
Somlon Elder Somlon

One of the twelve Elders of Gatstaf. Killed by Mrs. Palter.[10]
Sruta

A woman who along with Olutio and Algli summoned a demon called the Buried Lord, in order to control the undead and bring security to their village. Hungry, the demon killed the cultists, but Algli was saved by the Archangel Liesa, who had been returned to life inadvertantly in the ritual.[6]

Taivas

A sorceror and founder of the village of Traublassen and great-grandfather of Vytas. Upon founding the village more than 100 years ago, he trapped Umbris in a magic circle and made a pact with the entity. Umbris would remove the painful memories from the villagers so that they would always be willing to work, in return for human sacrifices which would be delivered to Umbris at certain times.[5]

Daughter of Liont and his wife Hilde. Killed by her father when the Cursemute lifted and he became a werewolf again.[31]

Ruling lord of the village of Traublassen, father of Boris and great-grandson of Taivas, the founder of the village. Vytas continues to pay for the pact his great-grandfather made with Umbris in the past, handing over a person to the entity in exchange for removing the villagers' painful and sad memories so they would always be willing to work. Vytas hired Torens to investigate the building where Umbris was imprisoned, secretly delivering him as a sacrifice. After Torens freed Umbris, Vytas along with his son were killed by the furious population who now knew about the pact.[5]

Born in Gavony. A bishop of the Church of Avacyn, friend of Arlinn Kord and father of Dennick Betzold. He was killed and turned into a zombie during The Travails. After Arlinn gets answers about the Moonsilver Key she kills the zombie cleric so he can rest in peace.[44]
