Drunau is a small but influential port town on the coast of Nephalia in Innistrad. Situated where the Alrun River meets the sea, Drunau is known for its artisan crafts, clandestine vampire influence, and its uneasy balance between trade and the undead.
Description
Drunau is a port town in the province of Nephalia on Innistrad.[1]
The Alrun River begins in the highland forests where the Ulvenwald of Kessig meets the Moorlands of Gavony, carving a canyon through rocky ground until it reaches the sea at Drunau. The town sits nestled in this canyon at the river's mouth, with steep bluffs rising on either side. Drunau is known for its artisans, including renowned weaponsmiths and sculptors, and its markets thrive on trade in blessed items brought from Thraben. The surrounding region is home to vampires of the Stromkirk bloodline, who frequently roam the town's streets after dark. Drunau's mayor, Elder Vetters, is a human servant of Runo Stromkirk, who turns a blind eye to the vampires' dealings in exchange for the promise of immortality. Under Vetters' rule, human blood has become a commodity, traded and sold under only the thinnest veil of secrecy.[2]
High on a cliff overlooking Drunau stands Stromkirk Keep, a fortified stronghold guarded by horrors that never sleep. Keep houses hold Runo Stromkirk’s guard, and serve as a military outpost to defend Stromkirk's interests and enforce their influence in Nephalia. Nearby, deeper within the cliffs, lies Stromkirk Manor, the secluded ancestral residence of Runo Stromkirk himself — an opulent and ancient estate that serves as both his private refuge and the ceremonial heart of the Stromkirk bloodline.
The town's merchants trade in ships, handcrafted goods, weapons, and imported wares from other provinces, especially holy relics from Thraben.
The Fauchard
The Fauchard are an order of human vampire hunters who often operate out of Drunau. Some come specifically to hunt the undead and, if possible, Runo Stromkirk himself. They are a secretive group, recognizing each other through an elaborate symbolic code, whether worn, written, or gestured. Runo tolerates their presence to a degree, as the Fauchard target vampires he considers crude and unworthy. However, any Fauchard exposed by the Stromkirk are relentlessly hunted in return.
