Elbrus is a legendary blade on the plane of Innistrad that can bind demons.

Description

Elbrus is a rune-etched bone dagger known as the Binding Blade that can trap a demon's essence within it. Sometime in the past of Innistrad, the demon Withengar was bound within the blade until the Skirsdag cultists tricked Saint Traft into releasing him. They blinded the monster slayer and swapped the sword on his hand for Elbrus. After he slew the cultists with the blade, it freed Withengar in the process. Following this Withengar ended the life of Traft while laughing.[1] It is not known what became the blade following this.

Trivia

  • The artist Eric Deschamps originally intended for Elbrus, the Binding Blade, to be Withengar's severed finger and planned to draw Withengar with a missing finger. On the final card art, Withengar has all of his fingers.[2]
