Westvale Abbey is a cathedral located in the village of Westvale, within the Moorland parish of Gavony on the plane of Innistrad. Once a sanctuary of faith, the abbey is now a corrupted landmark and stronghold of Ormendahl, the Profane Prince. It serves as a site of worship and ritual for the Skirsdag cult.
Description
Westvale Abbey is a large, isolated structure characterized by steep Gothic architecture, spired towers, and a prominent central nave. It stands amid open moorland and sparse vegetation in a remote area of western Gavony. Its distance from major settlements allowed it to operate with limited oversight from the Church of Avacyn and the Order of Saint Traft.
Originally established as a place of worship and refuge for the villagers of Westvale, the abbey served as a beacon of hope during the encroaching darkness on Innistrad. However, following the release of Ormendahl from the shattered Helvault, the Skirsdag cult repurposed the abbey as a site for demonic rites. Hidden chambers beneath the abbey were used for sacrifices and dark summoning rituals.
With Ormendahl's emergence, the abbey underwent a violent and supernatural transformation. The sacred structure was twisted into a profane monument, and the cult fully dedicated the site to his worship. From that point forward, Westvale Abbey served as both a physical lair and spiritual seat of power for the demon and his followers.
