Boulder is a wolf on Innistrad, one of Arlinn Kord's pack.[1]
Description
Boulder is a prominent wolf in Arlinn Kord's pack on the plane of Innistrad. He is distinguished by his large size and friendly demeanor. Boulder represents both the strength and loyalty of Arlinn's pack as well as the internal conflicts arising from Tovolar's influence. His actions, from supporting the hunt to forcefully opposing Arlinn's restraint, highlight the challenges Arlinn faces in reconciling her dual nature and leading her pack.[1]
History
Boulder, along with Arlinn and the other pack wolves named Streak, Redtooth, and Patience, was engaged in a hunt together. When Arlinn gave the command, Boulder, bringing up the rear, followed the pack energetically. During the hunt, they encountered a white stag, and Arlinn sensed something wrong, halting the pack. They met Tovolar, who revealed his plans for a new pack and a more aggressive approach towards reclaiming the night. Boulder showed his allegiance to Tovolar, joining other wolves as they prepared for this new era of domination, leaving Arlinn feeling betrayed.[2]
Arlinn struggled with her internal conflict between her human and wolf natures. As she resisted Tovolar's call to give in to the hunt, Boulder, along with Streak and Redtooth, closed in on her. Despite Arlinn's resistance, Boulder forcefully pushed her, breaking her ribs, and Tovolar demanded that Arlinn show her true self. This act exemplified Boulder's loyalty to Tovolar and the new pack, positioning him against Arlinn's wishes.[3]
Arlinn experienced a vision of her past and the destruction of her home. During a chaotic battle, she was attacked and overwhelmed by her former packmates, including Boulder, who showed predatory aggression. Despite their past companionship, Boulder did not hesitate to use force against her, emphasizing the divide that Tovolar's influence had created within the pack.[4]
Arlinn dreamed of running with her pack but woke to find herself injured from a previous battle. Tovolar and her wolves, including Boulder, were by her side. Despite the relief of seeing her pack, Arlinn acknowledged the tension with Tovolar. Boulder and the others assisted her, reflecting on their complex relationship — loyal and caring, yet influenced by Tovolar's aggressive vision for their future. Arlinn prepared to confront Olivia Voldaren and realized she must also address her unresolved conflict with Tovolar. In the end, Boulder rejoined Arlinn in Thraben Cathedral, helping them to her feet and staying close, even as Arlinn faced Tovolar and the challenges that lay ahead.[5]
