Beyeen is an island off the coast of Ondu, on the plane of Zendikar.

Description

Beyeen is the middle-sized of Ondu’s three major islands, smaller than Agadeem but larger than Jwar Isle. It is possible to reach both Agadeem and Beyeen from mainland Ondu without using a boat, likely via bridges or natural crossings.[1]

Located in the Bay of Beyeen, the island is geothermally active, with numerous calderas, volcanoes, and lava rivulets dotting its volcanic terrain. These volcanic landmasses are linked by bridges of clinging vegetation. Despite its fiery geology, Beyeen’s lowland valleys are temperate rainforests, supporting a rich diversity of flora and fauna.[2]

The kor refer to the island’s mountainous region as the Crown of Talib, named after Talib, their god of the earth. Like the Piston Mountains of Makindi, the Crown features numerous "pistons" — hovering peaks that unpredictably rise and crash down, creating dramatic tremors and rockfall.

Valakut, the "Molten Pinnacle," is the largest and most active volcano of the Crown range.[3]

Beyeen is home to bands of goblins who move from peak to peak within the Crown of Talib, expertly locating ore, obsidian, and gemstones. To appease the island’s volatile volcanic forces, these goblins perform regular sacrifices of fruit and precious stones. Despite their efforts, they remain highly vulnerable to eruptions, elementals, and the dangerous wildlife of the island. Outsiders often see their culture as simple, but the Beyeen goblins maintain a deep dynastic history stretching back generations, recorded in swirling paintings along miles of cavern wall deep under Valakut. This cavern network is known as the Beyeen Vein.[4]

On the coast lies Zulaport, a bustling settlement populated by mages, explorers, and artisans of many races. For a time, its economy was controlled by the vampire Indorel, who maintained dominance through a network of goblin, human, and ogre enforcers.[2]

Boilbasin is a series of massive geothermal tide pools cascading down the island’s western slope toward the sea. These pools mix seawater with volcanic hot springs, producing steaming basins said to be favored by dragons, who bathe in them to cleanse their scales.[5][2]

History

In 4557 AR, Nissa Revane, Sorin Markov, and Anowon passed through Beyeen on their way to Akoum. Coming from the Fields of Agadeem, they traveled into Zulaport, where they were given lodgings. However, Sorin and Anowon killed and fed on a pair of Indorel's men, leading to a violent confrontation where several of the Zulaport enforcers and Indorel himself were killed. The traveling trio then privateered a ship, with Nissa summoning a giant beast to pull them across the Silundi Sea to Akoum.[1]
