In life, centuries ago, the elf Obuun was the leader of the Mul Daya rebellion against the Bala Ged Skyclave on Zendikar.[1] He now lives on as a spirit.
History
Youth
As a youth, Obuun lived with his uncle on the Skyclave itself, feeling like a stranger among the Kor. He returned to Riverroot Village to reconnect with the spirits of his ancestors, especially those of his dead parents.[1]
After death
In death, Obuun is the key advisor to Speaker Hazzan, the current leader of the Mul Daya nation.[2][3][4] Hazzan claims that the ghost of "The Everliving One" houses in his wooden throne that is entwined in vines and bark.
Even though Obuun has been dead for ages, it in no way impedes his influence. On the contrary, the ancient elf spirit holds an unparalleled mastery of both the spirit world and the forces of nature. Speaker Hazzan's influence is heightened by his close relationship with Obuun, but he would lose his honorable position if he were ever seen disagreeing with Obuun or disobeying his commands.
