Sejiri is one of the seven continents of Zendikar.[1]

Description

Sejiri is a vast, icy tundra surrounded by cliffs. Located at Zendikar's northern pole, it is constantly covered in permafrost tundra, wind-blasted mountains, and impossibly tall cliffs that encircle the continent.

Despite its inhospitable terrain, creatures such as goblins, felidars, griffins, drakes, wolves, yeti, snow rocs, elk and sphinxes made their home in the snow-covered wastes. Besides its living dangers, the continent is also home to enormous, floating stone "urns" that spill avalanches of ice and snow on unsuspecting travelers.[1] There are many ruins, and explorers brave the cold to see what treasures lie deep beneath the snowy surface.

Notable locations

  • Benthidrix Blue mana - an ancient underwater shrine lying under one of Sejiri's deep riverbeds, this ruin was uncovered by Kozilek's passage across the landscape. Originally built by a lost culture of arctic merfolk who dwelled there, it was created before -1400 AR - one of only six sites on the plane known to predate the Eldrazi. On the one hand, such a place offers a fantastic wealth of knowledge about an otherwise forgotten period of ancient history. On the other hand, it probably can't contain any knowledge of the Eldrazi themselves, so it was hardly a priority while the plane was under attack.[1][2][3]
  • Chill Depths Blue mana - a merfolk enclave
  • Ikiral White mana - a settlement and trading post huddled in the ruins of an enormous broken hedron lying awkwardly on its side, partly sunken into the tundra. The hedron is split down the middle and, in the crevice, partly sheltered from the elements, cluster Ikiral's stone buildings. Frequented by wolf sledders, tundra scholars, and thrill-seekers, the outpost is the best place to find supplies, rumors, and an up-to-date map of the surrounding area.[1][2]
  • Kozilek's Ruin Colorless mana - Kozilek's arrival in Sejiri altered the land into rippled formations, stripping off the snow and revealing bedrock warped into strange geometric shapes of unnatural color. It also revealed numerous ruins that had previously been lost under the ice, which are once again drawing explorers to Sejiri's barren wastes.[2]
  • Midnight Pass - the only way to access Sejiri. Only ships with a dedicated merfolk navigator have any real hope of successfully steering into the pass. Deep into the pass, ships can dock and adventurers can begin the slow and dangerous ascent to the tundra plateau[1]
  • The Sejiri Skyclave - once destroyed by the Eldrazi, the skyclave is now a floating ruined fortress risen from the ice beneath it.[4]

History

Murasa once was part of the ancient Makindi Empire.[4]

Rise of the Eldrazi

When Sorin, Nahiri, and Ugin lured the Eldrazi to Zendikar to trap them, one of the Eldrazi titans appeared in Sejiri and destroyed the last Skyclave with a thoughtless flick of a tentacle. The shattered sphere was encased in polar ice.[4]

Within two years of the release of the Eldrazi, the entire continent of Sejiri was overrun and destroyed.[5]

Zendikar Rising

After Nissa Revane's use of the healing power of the Lithoform Core, the continent slowly recovers.[6]
