He can appear both as a blue-skinned kirin and as a human dressed in flowing cerulean robes that shimmer as though they remembered the once-caught light of a sunset at sea. At times his form flickers between transparent and invisible, yet he never completely disappeared. It appears more like he is something seen out of the corner of the eye. There, but impossible to focus upon.

Dew, also known as the Cloudhoof Kirin, is one of the five legendary kirin kami from Kamigawa that are known to meet with each other every 1,000 years.

History

Dew is one of the five legendary kirin kami of Kamigawa representing blue and is known to speak in riddles.

As the Kami War began, the five kirin met up as they do every 1,000 years. They met in a small teahouse inside a painting in Minamo. Dew appeared to show up fourth though claimed to have been there longer. As the other kirin discussed mortals and the ongoing Kami War, Dew stayed quiet and observed. After discussing for a bit, Pipe asked where he stood on the topic while Scale asked if he even knew what a mortal was. Dew claimed to not instead saying that all he sees are vessels walking upon the earth and phantasmal beings of light and wonder that bring whole worlds into being merely by closing their eyes. While the others claimed he just spoke madness as usual while Dew responded that he speaks of dreams. He told of the others of how he has acted as a recurring dream in the minds of mortals and wandered the shifting paths of their dream worlds for the previous 1,000 years. While there he read the unwritten scrolls that never say quite the same thing twice, though they are untouched by any quill or razor.

When the young soratami Meloku closed his eyes after completing the first of the great examinations a scholar of the soratami must pass, he created a dream palace in which he was master, and Dew danced among its clouds, as a kirin with whiskers of mist. When the akki Ishi-Ishi flew over the heights of Sokenzan on his stalwart goat and found the persimmon tree of plenty Dew was there as a worm in a fruit. He acted as a soft summer breeze that carried the scent of a gilt-haired maiden to the kitsune Snow Fur in his dreams after which he awoke and wrote his first poem that day. Scaled responded to these stories by wondering if Dew was trying to claim that humans were more than animals and more like kin to the Kami to which Dew responded that you cannot judge an acorn by its size and instead must look at its shadow, for there you will see the dream of the oak it is to become. Scale retorted that just because they dream of such doesn't mean they are making a joke about the quality of the poem and Nezumi dreaming they are dragons. In the end, Scale told the others of his actions during the past 1000 years before charging off. The others began to leave the meeting some with hope for the future while Dew disappeared without a word or the others noticing.[1]
