Hapatra, also called Rhonas's broken fang, was the vizier of the god Rhonas on Amonkhet.

Description

Hapatra served as Rhonas's trusted vizier, known for her mastery of poisons and her bond with the dangerous creatures of Rhonas's Monument. She carried herself with cold authority, her posture as sharp as her tongue, and maintained a collection of pet snakes that mirrored her sly, venomous humor. Her deep, magical connection with the monument's ancient basilisk rendered her immune to toxins, allowing her to experiment freely with new venoms and refine deadly traps and beasts within the jungle trial. It was Hapatra's duty to ensure that the Trial of Strength was both lethal and fair, constantly adjusting the monument's hazards to test the initiates' resolve and physical might.

Outside the monument, she instructed favored initiates in techniques for countering toxins, surviving poisonous wounds, and even applying poisons to their weapons when the trial demanded it. Above all, Hapatra's devotion to Rhonas shaped every action she took, as she sought to prove her worth and stand at his side beyond death.[1]

History

Hapatra first crossed paths with the Planeswalkers Chandra and Nissa when they arrived on Amonkhet.[2][3]

After Rhonas's fall and the destruction of the city during the Final Hours, she rose as a leader among the scattered survivors of Naktamun. Armed with her knowledge of venom and monsters, she worked to protect the refugees and shared crucial strategies for resisting the Eternal army.[4]

Trivia

  • Nissa was reminded of Lavinia from Ravnica when she first met Hapatra.
  • Her name and association with snakes are references to the most well-known queen of Egypt, Cleopatra. Thanks to Universes Beyond, she would herself become a card (Cleopatra, Exiled Pharaoh).
