Azcanta is a ruined and partially sunken ancient city located deep within the plane of Ixalan. It is said to hold within its drowned halls and hidden chambers all the accumulated knowledge and secrets of a forgotten age long lost to time.

History

Once, Azcanta was a thriving and influential city, rich in culture and power, but it found itself locked in constant and bitter conflict with the native River Heralds, who fiercely protected their lands and waterways. Eventually, after years of struggle and open warfare, the merfolk of the River Heralds unleashed potent and ancient magic to break Azcanta’s power once and for all, shattering its walls, collapsing its foundations, and causing the entire city to be destroyed and dragged beneath the waves. Today, many of its crumbling ruins still rise eerily from the seabed of the vast Inner Sea, their broken spires and half-submerged structures visible above and below the water’s surface. Because of this haunting visibility and the city’s legendary reputation, bold pirates, treasure hunters, and explorers often sail to these treacherous waters to search through the flooded passageways in hopes of discovering lost treasures, hidden relics, and ancient wisdom buried among the drowned stones.
