History
Tagard Tarngold had a daughter, Tallibeth. In her early years, her mother was killed by viashino for trespassing on their territory while collecting fruit. This tragic event set Tagard on a campaign to unite the humans of the Valley of Tamingazin under his banner. His ambition grew as he sought full unity across the Valley, regardless of species. He eventually succeeded in uniting humans, elves, and Viashino in a single front, positioning himself as the king, or Bey, of all the Valley — except for the neutral Institute of Arcane Study and the opposing city of Berimish, which was still ruled by Bey Lisolo.
To overcome Berimish, Tagard enlisted the help of Aligarius Timni from the Institute, who used magic to subdue the city in a bloodless coup. With the city leaders incapacitated by a sleep spell, Tagard took Lisolo’s torc of leadership, effectively claiming the city and completing his control over the Valley. However, shortly afterward, Tagard was attacked by a Viashino assassin, an attempt that seemed to be a retaliation for his actions. The Suderbod Ambassador, Ursal Daleel, appeared to intervene, saving Tagard’s life and killing the would-be attacker.
Despite the turmoil, Tagard continued his plans to add Lisolo to the ruling council. His decision, however, did not sit well with his general, Karelon, or the Garan leader, Rael Gar, who both opposed the Viashino’s inclusion. Tagard’s willingness to make enemies out of the wrong people would prove to be his undoing. On the day of his formal ascension to the throne, after Lisolo crowned him with the torc, Tagard was fatally shot through the chest with crossbow bolts, and the Betrayal of Tamingazin was a reality.[1]
