Berimish is the biggest city in the Valley of Tamingazin, part of the Otarian continent on Dominaria.[1]
Description
Berimish, a city with a population of more than 40,000, has whitewashed walls, with narrow alleys branching from the main road. The city is mainly populated by viashino, but many humans also live there. The city is fed by agriculture from the villages along the River Nish, as well as imports from the islands or countries to the south. The palace of the bey is called the Splendent Hall, situated on the great plaza in the center of the city. On the far side of the river lies the Great Marsh, which is lightly used as a source of edible and medicinal plants, but also presents the dangers of attalo and En'Jaga.[1]
History
The city of Berimish was founded by the Viashino, nestled in the southern reaches of the Valley of Tamingazin. It was once a thriving and independent city-state, strategically located to control trade routes and access to the valley's fertile lands. Known for its resilience and rich cultural heritage, Berimish became a beacon of Viashino power, standing as a testament to their strength and autonomy amidst the regional strife that often plagued the valley.
For generations, Berimish was embroiled in the ongoing conflict between the valley’s three dominant peoples — the humans, Garan elves, and Viashino. While alliances shifted and wars raged between these factions, Berimish remained a focal point of resistance, with the Viashino fiercely defending their city from attempts by the humans and elves to dominate the region. Despite the constant pressure, Berimish's leaders maintained their hold over the city, using both diplomacy, sturdy walls, and military strength to ward off invaders.
The turning point in Berimish's history came during the Betrayal of Tamingazin, when the human leader Tagard Tarngold sought to unify the valley under a single rule. With the help of the mage Aligarius Timni, Tagard’s forces successfully subdued Berimish without a battle, and the city was incorporated into the newly formed alliance between the humans and the Garan elves. This marked the end of Berimish’s independence, but Tagard’s vision of unity quickly faltered.
Upon Tagard’s assassination, his general Karelon seized power, blaming the Viashino for the murder and launching a brutal war against them. Berimish, now under human control, was caught in the crossfire of this conflict, and the once-proud city became a symbol of the tensions that would lead to the collapse of Tagard’s unified vision. Despite the violence and destruction that followed, Lisolo, the former Bey of Berimish, became an unexpected ally in the resistance. To ensure the death of Karelon and the downfall of the city's oppressors, Lisolo joined forces with Tallibeth Tarngold and other resistance fighters to reclaim the city's future. Through their efforts, Berimish was no longer a city divided by conflict, but a city that helped to rebuild the shattered unity of the Valley of Tamingazin.
While Berimish’s sovereignty was lost in the wake of Tagard’s assassination, the city’s enduring legacy as a symbol of Viashino culture and resilience was not forgotten. After the defeat of Suderbod and the restoration of peace, Berimish became a vital part of the newly formed governing council, now serving as a unified symbol of the diverse peoples of the valley. The city’s storied history, once defined by conflict, now stood as a reminder of the Valley of Tamingazin’s hard-earned unity and resilience.[1]
