Curse of the Werefox is a folktale from Eldraine that tells the story of the elves of Redtooth Keep.
Story
Summary
Redtooth Keep is one of the elven citadels in Eldraine.[1] Long before New Phyrexia's Invasion of Eldraine, the garrison at Redtooth Keep turned away a group of travelers seeking shelter. Before departing, one of the travelers was revealed to be a powerful witch and cursed the elves, declaring that their bodies would forever transform to match their hearts' selfish and bestial natures.
By day, the elves of Redtooth Keep are agile and adept rangers, expertly patrolling the lands around the Keep.[1] But each night, the elves of Redtooth Keep transformed into feral, monstrous werefoxes.[2] In fox form, the elves could no longer speak.[1] The curse of Redtooth Keep could only be broken by a mystical rose known as the Wild Rose that bloomed in the moonlight, guarded by an archon.[3]
After Syr Armont fell in love with an Elvish Archivist, the rose began to bloom, and the curse, in turn, began to wither.[4] It is unclear if each individual elf was cursed, as a similar situation occurred when an Ardenvale knight fell in love with and betrothed a werefox with a rose of his own.[5]
