Havengul is a major port city in the province of Nephalia on the plane of Innistrad. Known for its thriving trade, shipbuilding, and notorious black market, it is the largest and most industrialized of Nephalia's three cities. Havengul is home to merchants, craftsmen, grave robbers, and necromancers, and serves as a center of commerce and the occult along the Silburlind River.

Description

Havengul is the largest of the three cities in the Innistrad province of Nephalia. It stands at the mouth of the Silburlind River.[1][2]

The Avacynian church has a small fort here known as the Elgaud Grounds. Many Nephalians are wary of the priesthood and watch them closely. As long as the church brings trade to and from Thraben, it is tolerated by Nephalia’s key players. During Avacyn's madness, the Elgaud Grounds were used by the Lunarch Inquisition as an execution site.

Havengul stands at the mouth of the Silburlind River, which begins in the Moorlands of Gavony. Its population — the largest of the three port towns — includes human woodworkers, shipbuilders, smiths, and traders. The Avacynian church has long maintained a strong presence here, claiming its share of the bustling trade, but during the Lunarch Inquisition, most clergy remained behind the walls of the Elgaud Grounds unless they were gathering the 'sin-plagued' for trial and swift execution. The Lord Mayor of Havengul is Herzag, a corrupt merchant who allows the city’s illicit underground to thrive for his gain. Beyond mundane crime, grave robbers here maintain a brisk trade in corpses, which they sell to ghoulcallers and skaab stitchers alike. There is at least one lich living in Havengul, and Jeleva's Mansion, the vampire's opulent estate from where she preys on the city’s people, is also nearby.[3] Gisa Cecani dislikes Havengul, calling it a 'sterile, industrial city.'[2]

Near the Elgaud Grounds stands the Engelturm, once home to the Flight of Goldnight, now occupied by Gisa Cecani.[4][2]

Ludevic's laboratory is also located in the city, run by Geralf Cecani while Ludevic is away.[2] During the New Phyrexian Invasion, the Cecani siblings led the defense of the region, though many of the city’s citizens were killed in the attack.
