Lich

Liches are beings who have stored their life force in an object called a phylactery so that their mortal body will endure upwards of millennia in undeath.
Description
A mage becomes a lich by means of necromancy. Liches usually are of the zombie creature type and often have the wizard or warlock type as well. An exception is the D&D card Demilich, which is a skeleton. In contrast to regular zombies, liches retain their consciousness.
