Cecani is one of the three most prestigious human noble houses of Gavony, the central province of Innistrad. As a lineage of wealthy landowners and devout followers of the Church of Avacyn, the Cecani have long been pillars of Thraben society. Many members of the family have risen to prominent positions within the church hierarchy, becoming bishops and even Lunarchs — the highest rank within the Avacynian faith.
History
The house's influence and reputation have been overshadowed in recent years by the actions of the notorious necromancer twins, Gisa and Geralf. The twins, born to Gretchen and Geralf II Cecani, openly practice necromancy and corpse manipulation, defying both Avacynian doctrine and the laws of Gavony. Gisa is infamous for raising the dead to form mindless ghoulish armies, while her brother Geralf prefers stitching together new creations — known as skaabs — from scavenged corpses. Their rivalry and antics have brought disgrace to the house and scandal to Thraben, and complete ruin to the town of Trostad.
Despite this stain on their name, other members of the Cecani have maintained the family’s traditional roles within the church. Their cousin, Mikaeus, served as the Lunarch, the supreme spiritual leader of the Church of Avacyn, and was renowned for his dedication to upholding the faith. However, after his death at the hands of his cousin Geralf, Mikaeus was later raised as an undead horror by the planeswalker Liliana Vess, becoming a symbol of the corruption that even the holiest bloodlines are not immune to on Innistrad.
The Cecani estate remains in Gavony, and while many of its living members strive to preserve its reputation, the legacy of the necromancer twins continues to cast a long, unsettling shadow.

- Geralf III Cecani – a brilliant but morbid skaberen, twin brother of Gisa.
- Gisa Cecani – a ghoulcaller who revels in raising the dead for her own amusement and petty wars with her brother.
- Gretchen Cecani – the matriarch of the family and mother of the twins.
- Geralf II Cecani – their father, of whom little else is known.
- Geralf I Cecani – the family’s patriarch in the generation before Geralf II.
- Mikaeus Cecani – cousin of the twins, one of the last known Lunarchs, later reanimated as an undead horror.
- Hinrik of House Cecani – a member of the house, but of uncertain relation to the others.
