Destroy All Humans. They Can’t Be Regenerated (すべての人類を破壊する。それらは再生できない) is a Japanese manga series written by Katsura Ise and illustrated by Takuma Yokota, themed around the game of Magic: The Gathering (2019 -). Originally translated as Destroy All Humankind. They Can’t Be Regenerated, an English version was released in October 2024, under the name Destroy All Humans. They Can’t Be Regenerated.

Overview

It’s the nineties at Tokiwaga Middle School. And for gamers like Hajime Kano, the release of Magic: The Gathering means nothing will ever be the same again!

The story takes place in 1998 (during the Urza block). The teenage characters play the game, mention specific cards and archetypes of the time (e.g. Turbo Genius) and also play different game types (draft, type II, and so on). The main protagonist Emi Sawatari plays white, her friend Hajime Kano plays black and the French girl Lou plays blue.[1]

Blurbs

Volume 1

In everything he does, it seems like geeky Tokiwagi Middle School student Hajime Kano comes in second place behind popular honor student Emi Sawatari. But when Hajime takes a trip to a new game store he’s been hearing about, their rivalry takes an unexpected turn.

Volume 2

It’s the summer of 1998 in Japan. Hajime and Emi enjoy some fun in the sun at the pool, and cast spells and summon creatures at their first official Magic: The Gathering tournament … after which, they start to see fireworks — literally and figuratively!

Volume 3

As their 1998 summer vacation comes to an end, the release of Magic: The Gathering's new expansion, Urza's Saga, garners excitement from Hajime and the other players. Amidst the hype, Hajime runs into a mysterious yet somewhat familiar girl during an autumn field trip.

Promos

Each original manga volume comes with a Japanese Language foil promo of a card from the Urza block era. The 2024 English series contains the same promo cards with English text, in the M15 card frame.[2]
