Shadows over Innistrad Remastered features the set-defining cards and iconic mechanics you remember from both Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon but with updated gameplay to make this a fun and fresh experience. The combined card count from across the two sets is 302 cards (including 15 lands), with a focus on the Limited play experience (Draft and Sealed), Pioneer, and continued support for Historic. 129 cards of Shadows over Innistrad and 85 of Eldritch Moon were not included in the set.

The following cards were released with new art: Bloodbriar, Crow of Dark Tidings, Drag Under, Galvanic Bombardment, Sigardian Priest, Tamiyo, Field Researcher and Ulvenwald Mysteries.

Shadows of the Past

Main article: Shadows of the Past

As with Amonkhet Remastered, a series of 76 non-block cards with the expansion code SIS were distributed via a guaranteed slot in the boosters.[6] Because Shadows over Innistrad block was prior to the advent of Masterpiece Series, the bonus cards are instead from the original Innistrad block, which would otherwise be outside the purview of Explorer anthologies.

Wizards of the Coast experimented with a digital twist to the release of the Shadows of the Past bonus sheet: each week featured a different subset of the cards being available in Limited events.[7] The pool of drafters was maintained, so players could experience cross-sheet drafting. The four general themes were "Creature Type Terror" (tribal effects), "Fatal Flashback" (flashback spells), "Morbid And Macabre" (death and sacrifice triggers), and "Abominable All Stars" (other iconic spells, Mythics, has 24 cards). This release model was implemented as a work-around to the inclusion of common cards on the bonus sheet.[7] The distribution of commons required for limited gameplay meant that if the bonus sheet included a five-card common cycle, then only five rares could be included in the same distribution set. By having different weekly releases, and thus four different sets of bonus sheets, the limit on rares was reduced.

Packs bought from the store were not partitioned by theme or schedule and could have anything from the bonus sheet.

Mechanics

Mechanics in this block already on Arena include DFCs, Delirium, Investigate, Madness and Meld. From the original Innistrad block, Flashback, Morbid and Undying reappear.

Mechanics that are unique to Shadows over Innistrad block are Skulk, Emerge and Escalate. Though not a named mechanic, Emrakul, the Promised End's controlling another player effect is its first appearance on Arena, the programming of which made up a sizeable portion of the set's work[8] and was potentially a factor influencing the 28-month gap between Kaladesh Remastered and this set.
