Tamira is a Shandalarian gorgon mage-student in her first year at Strixhaven University on Arcavios.

Description

Tamira is a gorgon from Shandalar.[1] She has a slender figure, yellow-green skin patterned with red and dark green stripes, and hair composed of tendrils that fade from white to red.[2][3] Her eyes flash yellow when petrifying opponents.[4]

She is calm, composed, and studious. She knows some amount of Arcavian sign language. She prefers to be called "Tam".[2]

Tamira's teacher

Tamira has a special bond with an as-yet-unnamed teacher. She doesn't talk about him much; she doesn't even like to think about him much, to prevent the mind-mages in her theory classes from catching a glimpse of him in her thoughts and starting to ask questions.[3] At home, her teacher would sometimes flinch when meeting her eyes, though she couldn't have hurt him if she wanted.[5]

History

Sanar, Abigale, Kirol, and Tamira arriving on Lorwyn-Shadowmoor.

Tamira joined Strixhaven University around 4564 AR as part of the cross-planar student initiative.[6] In her first year as a Strixhaven student, Tamira signed up for an Introduction to Magibotanical Environments class, intending to move into the Quandrix College study track in their later years. Under the guidance of the teaching assistant, Dina, she visited Harrier's Wood, a forest some distance from the Strixhaven campus, to collect flowers. However, the faerie planeswalker Oko appeared and lured Tamira, along with her classmates Abigale, Kirol, and Sanar, through an Omenpath to Lorwyn-Shadowmoor.[2]

Abigale and the other students realized that they had accidentally traveled to another plane. They emerged into a meadow containing a free-standing dolmen gate, which paradoxically opened into a cave on its other side. Inside, they found carvings depicting a pair of large, winged, six-armed creatures. One creature had a moon for its head; the other, a sun. They found the moon-headed creature, the elemental Isilu, in a chamber beyond the carvings and accidentally woke it. As they fled back through the dolmen gate, waves of darkness radiated from the creature and flooded the world beyond, turning the day to night.[2]

Fleeing from the creature, the students found their way back into the clearing where they had started, where they spotted a patch of daylight with a person in it. Upon approach, the kithkin asked them what they were doing, and realized that they were from another plane. She introduced herself as Brigid Baeli. She explained the nature of the plane, mentioning that she had come to see whether there was a link between the Omenpaths and the unusual strangers that had been arriving on the plane since the Phyrexian Invasion. As she spoke, the students watched the night wash over the Omenpath they had emerged from and erase it. Realizing that they would be there for some time, Tamira asked Brigid if she knew anywhere they could stay, and the kithkin offered them hospitality.[7]

Brigid brought the group to Goldmeadow, where they discussed their predicament.[1] When Brigid heard that a faerie had been the reason for their arrival, she told them that they should seek audience with Maralen, queen of the faeries and a former companion of Brigid's. However, Isilu walked past the village, plunging a place that had been in Lorwyn for years into the darkness of Shadowmoor. Brigid told the students to escape before the xenophobic Shadowmoor kithkin attacked them, and they ran from the village, seeking Glen Elendra, Maralen's palace. When they arrived at the Wanderwine River, Abigale flew each of the others over, and they continued their journey. However, soon after they entered the Gilt-Leaf Wood, Kirol was kidnapped by an elven hunter, and none of the others noticed. When the three remaining students realized that Kirol had disappeared, Abigale turned back to look for them, but was startled by a large elemental and fell into a tributary of the Wanderwine.[3]

Tamira and Sanar decided to continue on Brigid's directions to Glen Elendra and arrived soon after, finding Maralen in crisis as she appeared to be turning into Oona.[3] Because of this, Rhys, her aid, tried to kill her as he was sworn to do in such times, but Tamira used probability magic to make him miss his attack and fall out a window. Maralen explained to the two students that she believed she was becoming Oona because of Isilu's premature awakening, and enlisted their help to prevent a disaster, promising them passage home in exchange. They fled with her to the Stinkdrinker boggart warren, where they found Ashling, an old companion of Maralen's.[5] The four set out to track down Isilu, but they were halted by Brigid and the Shadowmoor kithkin.

As they were brought toward a kithkin doun to be imprisoned, an army of Lorwyn elves emerged to attack Isilu, and the kithkin joined them in battle to protect the night elemental.[4] The students and Ashling fought the elves as well, but Maralen and Tamira were injured with the deadly poison moonglow. However, Ajani Goldmane, who had been enlisted by the class's professor Liliana Vess to rescue the students, entered the fray with Kirol in tow, holding off the elves. Kirol had been forced by the elves' leader, Morcant, to pick dawnglow, a powerful medicine that could counter moonglow's effects. She had brought a vial into battle, planning to use it to kill Isilu and destroy Shadowmoor. Kirol, Sanar, and Kirol's new ally Lluwen snuck into the elven lines, stole the vial, and brought it back, saving Maralen and Tamira's lives.[8] Shortly afterward, Abigale returned, with Isilu's opposite Eirdu in tow. The two gods embraced, and balance was restored to the plane.

After this, the students accompanied Ajani through another Omenpath, going from Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to Shandalar and eventually back to Arcavios. At Tamira's suggestion, Lluwen joined Strixhaven's cross-planar student program to escape the ruthless elven hierarchy of Lorwyn.
