Kirol is a vampire mage-student and athlete in their first year at Strixhaven University on Arcavios.
Description
Kirol is a non-binary[a] vampire native to Arcavios and a naturally stealthy person. They have a short, stocky stature, a pale skin tone, and pointy ears. When they grin, their sharpened canines are easily visible.[3] Naturally stealthy, Kirol is prone to acting without thinking about it, but they mean well.[4] They are adept at Mage Tower and are learning sign language.[5]
History

In their first year as a Strixhaven student, Kirol signed up for an Introduction to Magibotanical Environments class, intending to move into the Lorehold College study track in their later years.[6] Under the guidance of the teaching assistant, Dina, they visited Harrier's Wood, a forest some distance from the Strixhaven campus, to collect flowers. However, the faerie planeswalker Oko appeared and lured Kirol, along with their classmates Abigale, Sanar, and Tamira, through an Omenpath to Lorwyn-Shadowmoor.[3]
Abigale and the other students realized that they had accidentally traveled to another plane. They emerged into a meadow containing a free-standing dolmen gate, which paradoxically opened into a cave on its other side. Inside, they found carvings depicting a pair of large, winged, six-armed creatures. One creature had a moon for its head; the other, a sun. They found the moon-headed creature, the elemental Isilu, in a chamber beyond the carvings and accidentally woke it. As they fled back through the dolmen gate, waves of darkness radiated from the beast and flooded the world beyond, turning the day to night.[3]
Fleeing from the creature, the students found their way back into the clearing where they had started, where they spotted a patch of daylight with a person in it. Upon approach, the kithkin asked them what they were doing, and realized that they were from another plane. She introduced herself as Brigid Baeli. She explained the nature of the plane, mentioning that she had come to see whether there was a link between the Omenpaths and the unusual strangers that had been arriving on the plane since the Phyrexian Invasion. As she spoke, the students watched the night wash over the Omenpath they had emerged from and erase it. Realizing that they would be there for some time, Tamira asked Brigid if she knew anywhere they could stay, and the kithkin offered them hospitality.[7]
Brigid brought the group to Goldmeadow, where they discussed their predicament. When Brigid heard that a faerie had been the reason for their arrival, she told them that they should seek audience with Maralen, queen of the faeries and a former companion of Brigid's. However, Isilu walked past the village, turning a place that had been in Lorwyn for years into Shadowmoor. Brigid told the students to escape before the xenophobic Shadowmoor kithkin attacked them, and they ran from the village, seeking Glen Elendra, Maralen's palace. When they arrived at the Wanderwine River, Abigale flew each of the others over, and they continued their journey. However, soon after they entered the Gilt-Leaf Wood, Kirol was kidnapped by the elven hunter Lluwen, and none of the others noticed.[8]
Lluwen brought Kirol further into the wood, explaining that he wanted Kirol's knowledge on the premature awakening of Isilu.[5] He presented them to High Perfect Morcant, and they explained that they and the other students had awoken it by mistake. Morcant was interested in destroying Shadowmoor entirely and took Kirol's explanation to mean that Isilu might be vulnerable to attack. She concocted a plan of using dawnglow as a poison to kill the great elemental, and enlisted Kirol to harvest some dawnglove from a part of the forest that had fallen into night.[1] Kirol was forced to continue harvesting even when a group of rimekin were close to discovering them, but they were saved by the intervention of Ajani Goldmane, an associate of the Magibotanical Environments class's professor Liliana Vess. Kirol and Ajani fled the forest, and Lluwen decided to follow.
Searching for the other students, Kirol and Ajani found Tamira and Sanar locked in battle with Morcant's forces, who had tracked down Isilu and were trying to kill it with the dawnglow.[9] Worse yet, Maralen and Tamira had been poisoned with deadly moonglow, dawnglow's Lorwyn opposite. Kirol surmised that if they stole Morcant's dawnglow, they could use it to counteract the poison. They, Sanar and Lluwen, snuck behind the elven lines and took the dawnglow, handing it off to Maralen's brother Oko so that he could administer it.[10] Soon after, the elven forces were defeated by Isilu and its counterpart Eirdu, whom Abigale had come across and led to the plain. The two gods embraced, and balance was restored to the plane. After this, the students accompanied Ajani through another Omenpath, going from Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to Shandalar and eventually back to Arcavios. At Tamira's suggestion, Lluwen joined Strixhaven's cross-planar student program to escape the ruthless elven hierarchy of Lorwyn.
