The Surgeon Commander is a legendary Wombat Bat Chameleon hybrid humanoid from Bablovia.

Description

The Surgeon Commander is a hybrid bipedal being comprised of the hindparts of a wombat, bat wings, and a chameleon's arms and tail. It is unclear what the "base" being the Surgeon was before his augmentation. He is a member of Crossbreed Labs.[1] He wears a white lab coat and appears to be teaching a class, and he likes augmentation, fluffy animals, and creative templating. He was previously known as or served as a Surgeon General.

Trivia

  • Surgeon General Commander's color identity is all five colors due to the unorthodox templating of having all five individual mana symbols included in its rules text.[1] Due to this, it can be included only in five-color Commander decks. The Crossbreed Labs watermark was forgotten when the card was printed.
  • Mutate was not yet a keyword when the card was released, but later became one with the release of Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths.
  • Surgeon General is the rank granted to the highest public health official in many Commonwealth countries, though not for the United States. In the USA, it's the spokesperson in the US government for matters of public health.
  • For rule purposes, the card name is "Surgeon Commander". As the Un-Judge, Mark Rosewater states that the crossed out part of the Surgeon General Commander name should be ignored.[2]
