IPVN Seriema (E7B590CE9DF500) is a legendary spacecraft in the Edge.[1]
Description
Seriema is a spacecraft with a partially gray metallic and partially orange painted hull. She has a narrow central body with her fission reactor and fusion engine in the middle, two radiator wings on her sides aiming downward, and a third on her back facing upward.[1] Inside atmosphere, the Seriema flips from an engine-down spaceflight configuration into a belly-down aeroflight configuration. The ship also has a galley with a beanbag and refrigerator and a claw-like cargo space at her bow.[1] She carries risk armor for her crew as well as a dozen hotcells.[2] She has an inspectral array featuring an inspectoral telescope, weather lidar, and millimeter-wave radar, and an aftermarket electronic surveillance monitor (ESM) block. Her ESM package can detect radar and other forms of outside inspection.[3]
Propulsion
The ship's primary drive is a magnet-powered K-torch fusion drive with inertial-mass desist to make her a little lighter and a shadow shield to protect the rest of the ship from its radiation.[1][4][5] She uses arcjet thrusters and her three radiator airfoils for maneuvering and as a secondary drive and a laser-capable puller sail and plasma magnet as a tertiary drive.[6] Its interior is a knit carbon mesh covered in an atom-thick sheen of perfectly reflective film.[3] Her fusion drive can also cast a sail of aurora, a purple disk of plasma, that serves as a heat shield and aerobrake. Even without her primary drive, the Seriema can reach Mach 12 (9,207.23 mph or 4,116 m/s) within atmosphere.
Armor and Armament
Seriema has no guns, but instead has a sling used as a general-purpose mass driver.[2] She carries an illegal countermeasures package that can fire bundles of aeromuck and mirrordust when detecting an imminent threat.
Condition
Seriema is rancid with neutron rot and brittle with metal fatigue.[1] The fission reactor is at the end of its life. The fusion engine is on the verge of corroding right through its housing and bouncing around on its feeds like a marble. Her solar sail is under maintenance. She smells moldy.[5] While evading Sunstar Free Company forces on Kavaron, her radar was smashed and the magnet nozzle for her main drive was lasered off.[3] Her fusion drive was subsequently repaired by Illvoi mechanics under Mm'menon.[4]
Crew
The ship can hold a crew of twelve, and should fly with no less than six,[2] but is currently down to two:
Trivia
