The Creation of the first Phyrexianized planeswalker[1] marked a decisive and historic turning point in the strategic plans of the New Phyrexian regime and its long-term ambitions for domination of the Multiverse. The event represented the culmination of several years of covert operations, targeted research, and experimental development into the nature of the planeswalker's spark and the unique metaphysical properties of Kamigawa's spirit realm. The operation began with Tezzeret's infiltration of Kamigawa, where he successfully destabilized the Emperor's spark using the prototype Reality Chip. This chain of events ultimately allowed Jin-Gitaxias to perfect a process for forcibly compleating a planeswalker, with Tamiyo chosen as the first subject of this procedure.
Description
Tezzeret was originally dispatched to Kamigawa under the orders of the New Phyrexian praetors to gather intelligence about the interaction between a planeswalker's spark and the metaphysical structure of the plane's spirit realm. During this mission, he engaged the Emperor directly, deploying the prototype Reality Chip to destabilize her spark before withdrawing from the plane to report his findings.
Several years later, Jin-Gitaxias was transported to Kamigawa through Tezzeret's Planar Bridge to extend and refine this research. His arrival set in motion a series of confrontations. Upon discovering Jin-Gitaxias's presence, Kaito Shizuki and Tamiyo moved to dismantle the abandoned research facilities linked to the Reality Chip in an attempt to safeguard the Emperor. However, they were ambushed by both Jin-Gitaxias and Tezzeret. In the ensuing conflict, the Emperor — still linked to the Reality Chip — intervened by planewalking directly to the scene and slicing through Jin-Gitaxias, disabling the praetor and enabling Tamiyo to incapacitate Tezzeret momentarily while Kaito subdued him.[2]
While the group attempted to return to the Emperor in a commandeered mech, Tezzeret managed to break free, regain control of the Reality Chip using his command of metal, and override Tamiyo's will, leaving her defenseless and unable to use her story magic. Using the Planar Bridge, he abducted her and transported her to New Phyrexia. There, under Jin-Gitaxias's supervision, Tamiyo became the first planeswalker to undergo the process of Compleation. Her physical form was surgically altered and augmented with Phyrexian biomechanical components, marking the first confirmed instance of a planeswalker being successfully converted into a Phyrexian agent. This technological and biological breakthrough enabled New Phyrexia to directly target planeswalkers as potential assets in its ongoing campaign of Multiversal conquest.
The Emperor, having briefly accessed the Reality Chip before Tezzeret reclaimed it, was able to temporarily keep her spark stable after Jin-Gitaxias's withdrawal while in the presence of Kyodai, which allowed her to end the Asari Uprisers' rebellion with the help of Kaito. Before departing Kamigawa once more, she appointed Light-Paws as Regent of the plane, entrusting her with the governance of the plane in her absence before being ripped away once more. Kaito swore to track down both the Emperor and Tamiyo, and get revenge on Tezzreet.[1]
