The Aether Collection Towers are an important part of the network of aether-gathering machinery on Avishkar. These huge spires are open at the top, where aether is funneled in from the sky and absorbed into cables running to the Aether Spire in Ghirapur.

Other parts of the Aether collection and distribution system include:

  • The Aether Spire, a prominent Consulate headquarters and former site of Tezzeret's secret laboratory, was a type of combined collection tower, with aether visibly being drawn in at its top, and a distribution hub, with pipes running both up and down the spire.
  • The Aether Hub is the largest distribution center on Avishkar, and is a central part of the infrastructure that gathers the aether gathered from the Aether Collection Towers, and distributes it throughout the city.
  • The Aetherflux Reservoir is a giant storage unit for the aether that is collected from the Aether Collection Towers.

History

Despite the Consulate's efforts to use the Aether Collection Towers to make aether accessible to all of its citizens, some rebellious forces claimed that the infrastructure and regulations amounted to a stranglehold on what should be a freely available resource. From the perspective of the consuls and bureaucrats, these self-proclaimed renegades seemed to make it their mission to undo all of the Consulate's work over the sixty years since the discovery of aether refining processes by Avaati Vya. The Aether Collection Towers became seen as a symbol of the consulate's tyranny, and were the source of inspiration for the Consulate's symbol of themselves, which in turn led to the Renegades' use of the "Leaking Spire" symbol, representing an Aether Collection Tower standing on its head, its aether leaking out at the bottom.[1]
