Vadi was a reclusive Vulshok shaman from the Oxidda Chain on Mirrodin, known for her fiery temperament and unorthodox wisdom. Living alone near Koth's village, she was regarded by others—including Koth himself—as eccentric or even mad. Despite this reputation, Vadi played a pivotal role in urging Elspeth Tirel back to action during the early stages of the Phyrexian invasion, challenging her despair and reigniting her resolve.
Description
Vadi is a red-aligned Vulshok human shaman from Mirrodin, known for her fiery demeanor and solitary lifestyle. She lived alone in the Oxidda Chain, not far from Koth's village, where she was regarded as an eccentric and often described as mad — even by Koth himself. Despite her volatile temper, Vadi possessed a sharp insight into the struggles of others. When she encountered Elspeth Tirel, she balanced scorn with clarity and ultimately compelled the knight to confront her fears and reclaim her purpose.[1]
History
During the Quest for Karn, Elspeth Tirel separated herself from her companions, Venser and Koth, and wandered through the Oxidda Chain, burdened by despair over the growing Phyrexian corruption. She traveled back to Vadi's cabin, which the party had passed earlier. Vadi offered her shelter, food, and conversation.
As they spoke, Elspeth became overwhelmed by memories of her traumatic past, retreating inward and expressing hopelessness about the fight ahead. Vadi, however, was not one to coddle despair. She harshly rebuked Elspeth for her passivity, accusing her of cowardice and declaring that one who turns away from the enemy might as well be struck down. Though her words were cutting, they were also honest, and they stirred something within Elspeth.[1]
Moved by the Vulshok shaman’s brutal candor, Elspeth found renewed resolve. Realizing that retreat would not stop the Phyrexians, she resolved to take action. With her purpose rekindled, she left Vadi’s home and set her sights on Ish Sah, the heart of the Phyrexian corruption.[1]
