The Indigo Revolution was a mostly bloodless political upheaval on the plane of Avishkar (formerly Kaladesh) in which the Consulate was overthrown by the New Culture Collective and allied factions and replaced by the Avishkar Assembly.[1] The movement was named after the indigo color associated with its revolutionaries.[1][2]

Description

Shortly after the New Phyrexian Invasion, discontent with the Consulate’s handling of the crisis and the inequitable distribution of aether spurred widespread calls for change.[1][2] The New Culture Collective—a political bloc composed of engineers, students, laborers, intellectuals, couriers, aether smugglers, kinetic artists, pilots, and other radicals—emerged as a leading force in the protests.[3][1]

The NCC, together with former Renegades and other allied groups, coordinated a nearly bloodless coup that removed the Consulate from power.[1] Many of the grievances were rooted in the survival of the Consulate’s entrenched functionaries after the Aether Revolt, which had left reform-minded figures like Pia Nalaar dissatisfied. Pia was instrumental in organizing and leading the Indigo Revolution.[2][4]

The resulting government, the Avishkar Assembly or People's Assembly, was a democratically elected body of representatives from the plane’s eleven administrative districts.[5] While some former Consuls retained seats, most were newly elected. The Assembly’s first act was to rename the plane from Kaladesh to Avishkar, symbolically distancing it from the political legacy of the Consulate.[2]

Following the revolution, reforms to the class system were implemented, including instituting fair pay for the servants of the wealthy.[4] The new government also positioned Avishkar as a hub of multiversal trade and diplomacy, taking advantage of numerous stable Omenpaths connecting Ghirapur to other planes.[6] Avishkar began opening embassies across the Multiverse and identified Ravnica as its chief rival in culture and commerce.[2]

The Ghirapur Grand Prix, first held the year the Omenpaths opened, became a showcase of Avishkar’s culture and influence. The event’s success solidified it as an annual spectacle.[3][1]
