Ebi was a kor sentry at the reclaimed Sea Gate on the plane Zendikar. While on guard, he ran afoul of Ob Nixilis.

History

While a council was being held at the lighthouse at Sea Gate, Ebi stood guard on a cliffside. From there, he spotted Jace Beleren returning from the Eye of Ugin. Ebi led the mind-mage up the stairs leading to the council room at the top of the lighthouse, and knocked on the door, and peered in. Everyone looked at him - Gideon, Nissa, Kiora, Drana, Tazri and Jori En, their faces creased with worry or glowing with anticipation - they were expecting news of the titan Ulamog's approach.

Ebi said he thought he'd found something the Commander-General had been looking for, and waved for Jace to enter. Gideon smiled and embraced the mind-mage, thanking Ebi for his service. Ebi reported that the perimeter was secure, and closed the door behind him, uncomfortable at the tension in the room.

Later, Ebi was watching from his station atop a cliffside as the forces of Sea Gate trapped Ulamog in a circle of hedrons. He could not help whooping a cheer at the impressive spectacle, enraptured by its effects on the terrible Titan. Ebi staggered back, tears in his eyes. There was still hope. There was still a chance to save this world.

A cry of "For Zendikar!" echoed up from the Zendikari below, and Ebi lent his voice to theirs. But as he raised his fist in the air, a shadow fell over him. Before he could look up, a demon landed on the rock in front of him.

Ebi swung his weapon, but the demon caught his arm in midair, and then pushed Ebi up against the rock face behind him, his thick black hand around Ebi's neck. Ebi tried to call out. He had to warn the others. He was a sentry. Gideon was counting on him. But he could only croak as the demon squeezed his powerful hands until blackness took him.
